"The sky is the limit." That's what her father used to say. It was one of his favorite quotes and one of the reasons he'd named her Sora, the other being her sky blue hair and eyes. He always pushed her to follow her dreams and even supported her dropping out of high school at seventeen to start her own business, Enchanting Treats.
Sora and high school, well school in general, had never gotten along. People always teased her; she was always labeled as the weird girl who talked to herself. Of course, she didn't talk to herself, it was just part of her quirk, no one else could see the pesky pixie like creatures that followed her around everywhere she went trying to wreak havoc and chaos. They were adorable little pranksters and constantly getting her into trouble as they'd make funny faces and gestures at teachers and classmates and she couldn't help but indulge them. Everyone thought her odd because she saw things, magical things, that no one else could.
She learned at a young age she could let the pixies interact with other people by imbuing them in inanimate objects. It led to a very traumatic event for a boy in her pre-school that had tried to bully her as her stuffed bear suddenly began to strangle him. He'd been in her high school, before she'd dropped out, and still seemed freaked out by teddy bears.
Her pesky pixie friends weren't cruel or evil, they loved harmless pranks and fun but they were also very protective of her. Their protective nature was sweet but also a bit worrisome at times as it led to some awkward encounters over the years. Her dad had to bail her out of a lot of trouble at school. He couldn't see her pesky pixie friends but he found their antics fun and charming. He had always encouraged their mischief.
Sora pulled a set of keys out of her pocket as she came to a stop outside of her bakery, Enchanting Treats. Today was opening day, she'd spent the past week cleaning, remodeling and decorating everything just how she wanted it. Her bright sky blue eyes flicked up as she spotted what looked like a large cloud of brightly colored dust particles above her head. Her pesky pixie friends, they somewhat reminded her of soot sprites but they were in an array of colors and some of them even wore cute little hats, bows, ties and teeny tiny glasses.
"Ready for our first day?" She asked the cloud above her with a warm smile despite how tired she felt, it was way too early for people to be awake and functioning. There were countless pixies, many of them came and went as they pleased but there were some who'd been her faithful companions for as long as she could remember. She had no idea where they came from or where they disappeared to whenever they did decide to leave her but more always sprang up every now and again and would flock to her for a time to spread mischief and chaos.
There was a collective squee sound from the cloud of pixies and she giggled softly at their enthusiasm. The hair on the back of her neck stood on end, someone was watching her. She glanced to the shopfront on her left, and saw two men in their mid-twenties staring at the teen warily. They owned the deli next door.
Sora bowed her head feeling embarrassed by their staring knowing they'd just caught her talking to 'herself'. She hurriedly ducked into the bakery holding the door open a moment longer so all her pesky pixie friends could follow her. Locking the door behind her she headed through the small dining area. There were small cozy tea tables with frilly table cloths and comfy poufs around them for guests to sit on. Each table had a beautifully painted tea set on a tray in the center; she filled each of the tea kettles with water and fresh flowers and the saucers and cups with various sweeteners, coffee creamers, stir sticks, utensils and napkins. A tiny dark grey cloud with a faint red outline wearing a teeny tiny black bowtie floated into her peripheral view. It was the pixie who'd been with her the longest, Locke. He flitted in front of her face causing her to smile.
