Percy's POV

"Percy Jackson to Mr. Chirons office please," the lady said over the PA system in my class. I rolled my eyes and got up. I walked out of the classroom and up the main flight of stairs before turning into the office. "Just back there mister Jackson," she said not looking at me. I sighed and walked back to Mr. Chirons office

I leaned against the door frame "sit down mister Jackson" he said pushing his glasses up onto his nose. I don't understand how so many kids find him intimidating, he's a man in a wheelchair. I sat down in the brown chair across from him "we need to talk about your grades" he said, his normally happy tone gone

"I know I haven't been doing great in the academic classes but please don't kick me off the football team," I said

"Percy cam down, I'm just saying, if you keep up with this I will have to remove you from the team until you get your grades up. I may have to pull you from red feather" my heart dropped

"What can I do?" I asked

"Well you can get a tutor, maybe sit in a different spot in class, I know you sit with the team so you don't end up paying attention to Mr. Blofis," he said raising an eyebrow, I lowered my head

"I can't afford a tutor" I whispered

"I know Percy I already talked to your father," he said

My head shot up with fear "Gabe?" I asked

"Yes, he said he'd help you out and that you'd figure something out" I was terrified. I ran out of the principal's office, passed the nerdy girl sitting in the chair and down the stairs.

I ran all the way to my apartment building, hoping to be there before Gabe got home. I ran up the metal stairs, not wanting to wait for the elevator. I made it to my apartment and he was sitting on the couch waiting for me. He stood up, the bottle of beer falling from his hand and hitting the ground shattering

"I had a great conversation with your principal while I was at work," he said walking over to me. I lowered my head and shoved my hands in my pocket.

He walked over to me, he was so close I could smell the alcohol on his breath. He was shorter than me, but he was intimidating. He grabbed my arm and spun me around, pinning me against the wall. With his free hand, he grabbed my hair and bashed my face into the wall. I didn't fight back, I learned that when I was 11.

I let Gabe beat the shit out of me, I didn't care anymore. Once he got tired of the abuse, he let me go and went back to the couch, cracking open another beer. I walked quietly to my room. I changed out of my now blood-soaked hoodie and into a black one, I cleaned up my nose as much as I could before going to the corner store by my house and grabbing some gauze and medicine.

Somehow my nose wasn't broken, just bleeding badly. The shop owner didn't look at me, he handed me the stuff I needed and didn't charge me. I left him a tip and walked back to my apartment. Finally, I thought to myself as I saw my mom's car in the parking lot. I walked up the stairs and into the house, straight to my room.

I heard my mom crying in her room but I knew he wouldn't touch me now that she was home. I heard footsteps coming to my door and my mom opened it. She came and sat on my bed and helped clean me up some more "I'm sorry Percy" she said quietly

I hugged her "It's okay mom, soon we'll be able to leave him" I whispered, but she looked at me with heartbroken eyes "you're not coming with me are you?" I asked. When Gabe had started getting bad, my mom and I had come up with a plan that we would leave on my 18th birthday and never look back.

I laid on my bed and she left, leaving me alone to cry. My phone on my end table lit up. I picked it up and saw it was a text from my childhood best friend who I had moved away from when I was 10
