The rest of the day was a blur. Science wasn't much fun because we had to take a pop-quiz, and Lunch was boring since Steph had a drama club meeting so I had to sit alone at the lunch table.
But English class is were it all changed.
"Hello class, today we have a new student, his name is Sam Hilton, he is an exchange student from the UK, and will be joining this class for the rest of the year. Please make him feel welcome to this school and community. Sam, will you please stand up and tell us a bit about yourself?" Our english teacher asked, guest urging towards the boy next from me. I was surprised that I didn't notice him before.
"Um... well, my name is Sam, but um, I like to be called Sammy. I'm from the UK, and I like to paint and write." Sammy said nervously, flipping his brown hair out of his face, blushing a little. He was wearing a blue polo shirt, jeans, and a pair of black Converse on. He was pretty cute but I knew that he would be one of those popular kinda guys.
You could tell instantly if someone was popular because of their clothing and it was kinda obvious that he was rich since his parents had enough money to send him to America.
As Sammy sat back down into his next to me, he looked at me and I have him a reassuring smile. I felt kinda bad for him. But he would make a lot of friends so it wasn't that bad.
"Okay so back to English, we are starting the book "Catcher and The Rye, I know most of you have already read this in previous years but the the new curriculum requires all 11th grade English classes to reread the book." Said the teacher, everyone slumped lower in their chairs, Catcher and the Rye definitely wasn't our favorite book.
"You are going to work with the person to the left of you to create a 10 page essay explain the significance of Holden's red hunting hat and why it is important to him, please find your partner and start right away." Said the teacher which received a lot of groans.
I look to the left of me and the same moment I realize who I have to work with. Sammy Hilton.
"Um... hi, so um.. What's your name?" asked Sammy awkwardly.
"My name is Kayla Somber. So have you read Catcher and the Rye before?" I ask hoping he has, or else we had a lot of work ahead of us.
"Yeah, I've read it in 9th grade. So um... How are we going to start this essay?" Sammy questioned while getting out his notebook. As we plan out the basic parts of the essay, I look up at the clock.
"Oh wow, time goes fast, we better pack up since the bell is going to ring in about a minute." I state while packing my binder and notebook back into my backpack.
"Wait, um... Can I have your number? I mean for the English essay of course... Like just in case we have to get together. Not 'get together' I meant like finish the essay at one of our houses or-" said Sammy blushing.
"Hahaha chill, I get it. Of course I'll give you my number, just let me get a piece of paper and a pen to write it down." I interrupted. Writing down my number for him, I gave him the little slip of paper and he tucked it into his pocket.
"Hey by the way, are you going to the soccer game tonight? We're against our rivals." I ask Sammy.
"Um no... But maybe next time. I have umm.. I have something to do after school, sorry." Sammy replied.
After we said our goodbyes, I left to get my homework from today out of my locker. When I spotted Stephanie I told her what happened during math and English.
"Oh my freaking god, Colin totally has the hots for you. By the way, that Sammy dude that you were talking about, I saw him with some of the jocks and their girlfriends down by the boys locker room. He is REALLY a cute! You should totally Make out with him if he goes to your house for the English project!" Steph said, winking.
"Ew, no gross! He will probably have a girlfriend by next week if not, by tomorrow." I retorted
"We'll talk about this more later but right now we have to go watch Colin's soccer game!" Steph said, pulling me along to the soccer field.
