"When I was 11 years old, my brother, John, decided to join the army. He wanted to help protect our country, and others, freedom. Of course I didn't want him too. I pleaded with him not to leave. But he didn't listen. I made an agreement with him that he has to send me a letter every month no mattet what happened. So off he went to the army. He has been serving in Afganistan for six years and kept his promise ever since. But...but.. But now he broke his promise.." I said, breaking on the last part. I couldn't handle it anymore. I didn't know what to do.

"Shhhh, it's okay, maybe he just didn't have time to write a letter. I'm sure he'll send you one, you just have to wait." He said, patting my back, trying to comfort me.

"What if he's dead!??" I yell, suddenly standing up from my bed.
"Something has to be done. I have to find him. He is my brother for God's sake, family never gives up on each other." I decided, looking at him with tears streaming down my face. No matter how strong I was trying to be, I was falling apart.

"Well, friends never give up on other friends. I'll help you find your brother." He stated, hugging me in reassurance. I was surprised he thought we were friends.

"Just please, go. Let me be alone." I said, turning away from him. I didn't want company right now. What I really wanted, was time to be alone. I walked Colin to the front door to say goodbye.

"Hey, you'll be okay, I promise." Said Colin, hugging me again. I stood stiff as a board, not wanting to break down again.

"Honey were home!" Yelled my mom and dad as they entered the house. I didn't want to tell them what happened. But I knew that I had to.

"Mom. Dad. I need to tell you something. It's about John. I think something bad has happened to him." I said, quietly.

As my parents quickly ran up the stairs, I saw their panic and fear in their eyes which scared me even more.

"He's gone. He has stopped writing letters." I cried, stuffing my head into my pillow.

"It's okay. Maybe he just forgot to write it, I bet he is really busy." My mom tried to reassure me. Relief flooded her eyes.

"NO! YOU DONT UNDERSTAND! HE PROMISED ME!" I yelled, tears threatening to spill down my face.

"Just go away. Please. Go away." I whispered, looking down at my hands. No one understood what I was going through. Not even my own parents.
