"Oh, so where is she?" I ask excitedly.
"She's in the infirmary, Izzy. But just remember, she might not be a Shadowhunter," Jace informs me, but I was already bolting through the hallways.
I skidded to a stop once I reached the wooden double doors. I yanked them open, and practically flew into the room.
I looked around rapidly, and found her, lying in one of the beds. I ran towards her, and looked at her.
She had red hair, pale skin, and was tiny. I kind of liked the way she dressed, though. Had it been in black, I would have mentally congratulated her.
Jace finally comes into the room, and walks over to me.
"We found her in an alley. Well, Max did, but I guess you've already heard the story."
I nod my head. It was kinda sad. Whoever those Shadowhunters were, they weren't on our side.
"Did you find anything on her?" I ask, and look over at him.
He tears his gaze away from the girl. "Her initials are C.F. I haven't really checked out anything else, though. I went to sleep, then you came home," Jace informs me, and shrugs.
"Then let's do it now," I suggest, and he thinks for a while. After a moment, he nods his head and walks to the other side of her.
I grab her jacket off the table, and feel inside the white cotton pockets. Nothing.
I set it down, and kneel down beside the girl. I look her over, and notice a bump in her right pocket. I look at Jace, who was busy checking to see if she had any weapons on her, or a mark.
I stick my hand inside her jean pocket, and I feel paper. I grab it, and pull it out.
Gum wrappers fly everywhere, and I raise my eyebrows. It was Hubba-Bubba.
I grab the big lump of paper, and unfold it.
There were 3 drawing of 3 people, none of which were very familiar. I looked on the back of the papers, and there were dates on them.
It said 11/26. That was 2 days ago. "Jace, look at these," I say, and hand him the papers.
He looks them over with an expressionless face. Finally, he hands them back.
"Max said he saw 2 Shadowhunters beating up the girl. Do you think these are it?" He asks, and I bite my lip.
"But what about the third one?" I respond, and look up at him.
He remains silent for a while. "Lets go talk to Max. He's probably reading in the library," I say, and get up.
Jace follows, but once he passes the girl, he looks at her shoes.
"Izzy, look at this." I give him a strange look, and he beckons me over.
Once I make my way over, I look at the bottoms of her shoes. I gape at them. There was a soundless rune on the heel. And not only that, but Valentine's mark. An M with stars on it.
I look at Jace in horror. I look at the papers in my hand, which were now clenched tightly. The third man was Valentine. He was the white haired man in one if the portraits.
"Jace, we have to show this to the Clave. And to Mom and Dad," I insist, but he ignores me.
"When the girl wakes up, the we'll question her. Do not tell anybody, Izzy," he commands, and I purse my lips.
In a softer tone, he says, "When have I ever been wrong? Trust me, Izzy."
He silently strides out of the room, leaving me with a possibly evil and dangerous unconscious girl in a room.
I look over at the girl, and purse my lips. I sprint back over to her, and take her shoes off. I put them in the pocket inside my jacket. I stuff the papers in there too, and run out of the infirmary.
I run through the hallways, and burst into my room. It was filled with weapons, music, and little things to entertain myself. Usually, Church slept in here. I don't know what he liked about me, but it might have been my room. I always found him sleeping on the high objects in my room, or sniffing my stuff.
I throw the door closed, and sigh. I immediately go to my closet, and toss the shoes under my clothes in the hamper. Until the girl wakes up, nobody can find those.
I set the papers down on my bed as Max and Jace come in my room.
Max was looking a little depressed, and I wouldn't blame him. After that, I would be too.
Max sits down on my bed, and pulls his knees up to his chest, and rests his chin on them. He had socks on, but no shoes. There were dark circles under his eyes, and his face was pale, his glasses askew.
I grab the 2 portraits, and show them to him. "Were these the men you saw?" I ask him, and he looks up at the papers.
He looks at each paper carefully, and recognition is in his eyes. "Yes, both of them were in the alley."
"Max, did they call each other by names?" Jace asks him softly, and Max takes a while before he answers.
He points at the one with a big, black beard. He reminds me of some kind of hunter in the 1800's.
"The other one called this one 'Blackwell,'" Max responds, and I nod.
I go over to my desk, and rip off a purple sticky note. I write "Blackwell, Valentine" on it in blue pen, and stuff it in my pocket.
"Come on, Jace. Max, you can go to bed now, or go find Alec. But do not tell anybody. This is our secret," I tell him, and he nods as he leaves the room, shoulders slumped and feet dragging.
"So," Jace leans against the desk. "Where we going?" He asks, and I look at him.
"Hodge already gave her medicine," I say, "so she should be waking up now."
Together we walk to the infirmary, and make our way to the bed.
We stand in front of her for a moment, right before I walk to the left side of the bed.
I start shaking her shoulder, softly at first, then more harsh.
It doesn't matter if she got knocked out, she should be waking up now.My prediction was answered with a soft groan, and I sigh with relief. I stop shaking her shoulder, and stand at the foot of the bed with Jace.
We wait for a moment, and the girl stirs. She scrunches her face at first, and clutches her forehead.
"Did you use an iratze on her?" I whisper to Jace, and glance at him.
He leans closer to my ear. "No, she could have either died, lived, or it wouldn't work. I didn't want to take the risk."
The girl groans again, and opens her eyes. Once she saw the rest of the infirmary, and us, she jumped.
She was looking around wildly, and I ran to the side of the bed. Once she saw me get closer, she jumped out of the bed and backed up against the wall.
"Don't get any closer, you're one of them!" She exclaims, and I put my fingers to my lips.
"We're not going to hurt you," Jace says, and walks around the bed. He said it so calmly, so casually, it was almost weird. It's like he didn't even try to calm her down.
She looked at him, and he glanced up at her. He pushed his hair back, and it fell away from his eyes.
I looked back at the girl, and move just a little closer.
"We brought you here so you could recover. Max found you, and 2 people were beating you up. You are in no danger," I say slowly, praying that no one outside of the infirmary was hearing this.
I didn't tell Alec or my parents about the girl. They would either kick her out, or chain her up in some way. That wouldn't help the "We won't hurt you," thing that's going on right now.
We needed to find out information. Right away.
"Do you remember the shoes you were wearing?" I ask her, and her head snaps to me. She was calmer, but not comfortable.
She nods her head slowly. I look her in the eye.
"Can you tell us the whole story?" I ask, and she purses her lips.
