Unforgettable [Part 1/3]

June 1, 2023
Farmers' markets had always been something she enjoyed. From the smell of fresh produce to the sound of vendors praising their goods at their respective stalls, farmers' markets were definitely something that relaxed her. She faintly remembered when she first started coming here, more than a decade ago. Not much had changed since then, except for the fact she no longer frequented the market at seven in the morning. Now it had turned out to be close to eleven, and the fact her companion took her time conversing with one of the fruit vendors made her realise they were not going to get home before late in the afternoon. She glanced over at the girl and was overcome by some sort of... accomplished feeling? She let her eyes dart over endlessly long legs, covered in shorts that were barely worthy of the name. The tank top still revealed the girl's toned features, caramel coloured skin covered in thin, thin fabric. The girl ran her hand through silky black hair that cascaded halfway to her back. She swallowed as the girl suddenly turned around and beckoned her.
"Hannah?" The girl smiled, "C'mere, babe."
She smiled back, it had become an automatism. She got closer to the Asian girl and wrapped her arm around her waist as she glanced at the fruits the girl was holding. Aysa was going on about some health benefit of the bizarre looking fruit she was holding, but the explanation eluded her almost completely. Her girlfriend's top had somewhat inched up at the side; she mindlessly started stroking the soft skin with her thumb as she looked at the vendor in front of her, the man still enthralled with Aysa's mini rant. She was glad that she had chosen to wore sunglasses. At least it allowed her to look around without seeming too rude for not listening. Her eyes darted over the farmers' market; people had started showing up in large numbers. She didn't know whether that was due to ecological awareness during the past decade, or whether people were just more inclined to go out and do something at noon rather than at some ungodly hour in the morning.
"Four, please." Aysa's voice made her snap back to reality, "These are gonna be great." The girl smirked, turning to face Hannah and giving her a cheeky grin, "You okay? You seem distracted."
"Just reminiscing." Hannah redrew her arm from her girlfriend's waist, "Want me to pay for those?"
"No." The brown eyed girl frowned, "I can pay for them myself." She leaned in closer and pressed her lips against Hannah's, "Although I'll gladly let you buy me a green tea in a bit."
"Good." Hannah put her sunglasses on top of her head, "I'm parched. Do you need anything else?"
"I think we're good." Aysa looked at the small bag of food they had already bought, "Is there anything you fancy?"
"You." Hannah grinned, earning herself a playful nudge, "And some avocados."
"Avocados." The Asian girl chuckled and reached for Hannah's hand, entwining their fingers lightly as she grimaced, "You and those avocados, aye."
"They are -"
"- Nature's butter." Aysa interrupted, "I know, babe." She sighed, "You've been telling me that a few times a week now. For as long as we've dated." She paused, "Which is what now? Three years?"
"And two months and six days." Hannah squeezed her girlfriend's hand, "Which are coincidentally the best years of my life so far."
"You are cute." The silky haired woman leaned down slightly and kissed Hannah softly, "Right, let's be off to find you some avocados."
-
Avocados, Hannah realised, were addictive. She couldn't remember the last day where she had not eaten one, and happily looked at the prettiest ones in the stalls as Aysa strolled alongside her. Avocados may actually be my most favourite food. Hannah thought to herself as she let one roll around in her hand, Probably so. Apart from like... She turned around and noticed entire bunches of her equally loved fruit.
"Bananas!" She winked, "Babe, could you get me some while I buy these?" She gave her girlfriend a puppy eyed look, causing Aysa to raise her brow, "Please?"
"Anything for you." The brown eyed girl grinned before turning on her heel and walking to the other stall. Hannah admired her girlfriend's behind for a couple of seconds before turning back and gesturing for the vendor, "Six of these, please." She tossed him the avocado and dug her hand into the back pocket of her shorts to retrieve her wallet.
"Well, someone here must sell mint sprigs." She heard a female voice to her right hand side, "I really need to find me some today. Maybe over here?" She stopped at the same stall that Hannah was standing at and leaned in closer to the food, "Baileys has this chocolate and mint thing, remember? I am gonna try and make it myself."
A cold chill ran down Hannah's spine. That voice. She glanced aside just in time to see the girl reach out for a green apple. And those awkward hands. She cursed herself for being too curious, but looked up either way - only to find the stranger looking back at her with an equally shocked expression on her face. In front of her stood Grace Helbig. Grace, who had been her best friend for years. Grace, who had decided they should be BFF's over Bloody Mary's and the smell of swimming pool chlorine. Grace, who had travelled all over the country with her for comedy shows. Grace, who fell down stairs and sobbed in Hannah's embrace as they waited at the emergency room. Grace, who had dated men all her life and then got drunk and kissed her. Grace, who had ended up clawing at her clothes and stripping both of them naked and whispering over and over how they were meant to be. Grace, who had broken that promise within twelve hours of them waking up in each other's arms. Grace who had subsequently walked out of her life soon after, leaving Hannah their mutual friends. The blonde had literally picked up her life and left. And here, seven years later, she stood. A shade from the past.
"Hannah?" Grace was the first to speak, "It's," She swallowed, "It's been ages."
"Seven years." Hannah managed to bring out, "What are you doing here?"
"I moved back to Los Angeles a few months ago." The blonde mumbled, "New Jersey and New York became too claustrophobic." She forced a smile, "I missed these farmers' markets, too."
For someone who was in her late thirties, Grace still looked youthful as ever before. While Hannah had always admired the way that the blonde looked after herself, she was now slightly envious. Her own brow had decided to sport some wrinkles and lines at age 36, especially if she was pulling faces. Grace's face, on the other hand, seemed smooth. She fought the urge to reach out and trace the skin with her fingertips, as she looked at her ex best friend.
"Still writing books?" Grace asked, "I, um, read the last one. Last year."
"Yeah." Hannah replied, feeling increasingly uncomfortable, "Still doing that. How about you? Still doing comedy and theatre?"
"Girl's got to do what a girl's got to do." Grace smirked, "Hold on." She turned around, "Babe, over here!"
A tall, dark-haired man approached, his t-shirt just a tad too tight, causing his toned physique to protrude and undoubtedly impress most women. He had a chiselled facial structure, bright eyes, gorgeous smile - and now an arm wrapped around Grace's waist as he pecked her lips.
"Got us some meat." He held up a bag, "Steak night tonight, baby."
Hannah looked at Grace in confusion. The blonde smirked apologetically and shrugged, wrapping her arm around the guy as well.
"Gave up being a vegetarian a few months ago." She grimaced, "Mainly cause of Liam." She rested her head against the man's shoulder.
"And I'm back!" Another familiar voice sounded from behind Hannah.
For a second, Hannah's world seemed to go in slow motion. She had never expected Aysa and Grace to meet, basically because Grace had gone AWOL years before she even met her girlfriend. Sure, she had spoken of Grace in the past; she had to. There was no way to talk about her past without somehow bringing up the blonde, who had been a significant part of it before it all went to shit. Aysa looked between her girlfriend and the two strangers, a look of confusion plastered across her face. Grace was the first one to make a move.
"Hi." She flashed the Asian girl a million watt smile, "I'm Grace." She extended her hand, "Hannah's friend." She added, "And this is Liam, my husband."
Husband. Husband?! Hannah felt a chill run down her spine as she watched her girlfriend shake both Grace's and Liam's hand.
"Liam, this is Hannah, by the way." She gestured, "Remember, I used to hang out with her and Mamrie, like ten years ago?"
"Nice to meet you." Liam smiled, reaching for Hannah's hand.
"And you." Hannah responded automatically, her eyes focussing on Grace. She suddenly felt a pang of anger shoot up her veins as she pulled Aysa closer, "This is Aysa, by the way. My girlfriend."
Grace's demeanour changed for a split second, before she recomposed herself and smiled at the brown eyed girl. Aysa cleared her throat, unaware what brought on this uncomfortable situation. She held up the bag of bananas and grabbed the small bag of avocados that Hannah had set down on the ledge of the stall in front of her.
"Are we gonna grab some lunch?" Aysa tried, looking between her girlfriend's eyes, trying to read for a sign -any sign- what she was supposed to do, "The sun is starting to burn."
"Bought anything nice?" Grace chirped in, smiling at the two women, "Liam and I are looking for mint sprigs, you don't happen to know where we could find those?" She glanced at the contents of the bags Aysa was holding, "Don't tell me those are -"
"Avocados." Hannah mumbled, her mouth going dry.
"Well, they are good for you, aren't they." Grace smiled, turning to Liam, "Did you know they call them nature's butter?"
"Right." Aysa gathered the bags in one hand and took Hannah's hand into her free one as she tugged gently, "We've got to go. It was lovely meeting you both." She concluded, "Bye."
Without waiting for a response, she turned around from Grace, pulling Hannah with her. The brunette walked into the opposite direction for a few steps before turning around and briefly glancing at the blonde. Liam was already preoccupied checking out more vegetables as Grace stood there frozen, staring at her as she walked away. Hannah tore her eyes off the taller girl and looked straight ahead, trying to fight back the lump in her throat.
-
"So," Aysa started as Hannah shut the front door of their seaside house behind her, "Was this the Grace?" She turned to face her girlfriend, "Or are you this awkward around any girl named Grace?"
"No." Hannah sighed, "I mean, yeah. That was 'the'," She quoted, "Grace. I actually just don't want to talk about it anymore, Aysa." She threw her keys in the bowl next to the door, "It's in the past."
"It's upset you." The girl walked over and wrapped her arms around Hannah's neck, "You shouldn't let her get to you like this." She leaned in closer, her lips nipping at Hannah's earlobe softly, "She was a fool for what she did."
That's the thing though. She did not. Hannah took pride in being honest. She made it a thing to never lie to anyone, about anything. But when the subject was Grace... She had made up some bullshit story about why exactly Grace and her had stopped being friends. She had mentioned something about a drunken snog to Aysa, too. She had just left the rest of the night out. Was that lying? Or was that just not bothering to tell the entire truth? She sighed and buried her face into the nape of her lover's neck. Aysa felt good against her, she acknowledged. I have a model girlfriend. A gay model girlfriend. A gay model girlfriend who absolutely loves me to bits. I have it all. I'm fine. I'm fine. She was a firm believer of becoming what you thought. If she thought she was fine, she was due to be so, at least she figured. Aysa pulled back and smiled.
"Daijoubu?" She whispered, knowing that Japanese somehow always calmed Hannah down.
"Hai." The brunette looked up, smiling, "I love you so much, you know that."
"Hai." Aysa grinned, "Right." She grabbed Hannah's hand and pulled her towards the living room, "Come on." She walked backwards, "I'm gonna show you just how much I love you."
"Babe, I'm not really in the mood?" Hannah cringed, "I don't really," She paused as her girlfriend pulled her top over her head and smirked at her mischievously, "That's unfair."
"Sit down, Hannah." The taller girl sighed, pushing Hannah down on the couch before straddling her, "Arms up." She whispered, pecking Hannah's lips softly as her fingers twirled into the hem of Hannah's v-neck and started pulling it over her head, "I want you so bad, baby." She added.
The Asian girl quickly discarded her girlfriend's top and pushed Hannah down on the couch, quickly lowering her body on top of the fair skinned woman simultaneously. Her lips found Hannah's neck almost immediately and she gently started sucking on her pulse point as she roamed her hands over Hannah's body. Hannah hissed as Aysa's fingertips gently trailed the hem of her shorts, skilfully slipping behind and gently pulling at it, with no other purpose than to tease. Aysa started kissing down her lover's chest, hands wrapping themselves around Hannah's back to get rid of her bra. After briefly having caressed the smaller girl's breasts with her lips, she worked her way down Hannah's body. Reluctantly, Hannah laid back and stared at the ceiling as she felt fingers work the zip of her shorts and pull them off her legs. Why does this feel so weird all of a sudden? She wondered as she stared at the whiteness of the ceiling. Stop thinking. Just go with it. She closed her eyes and folded one arm beneath her neck as she felt dainty fingers stroke her inner thighs gently. It turned her on, so much was obvious. She became aware of warm lips following each small stroke of fingertips and anticipated what was about to happen. She inhaled sharply as a tongue ran up the length of her slit to the top, where she was throbbing. She let her free hand roam down her own body until her fingers found hair. She tangled her hand into long tresses and pulled softly as a pair of lips sucked at her clit and a finger entered her smoothly. There you go. You can do this. You can perfectly do this. She wet her lips as the pace sped up, more fingers were added and the lapping at her clit had become more intense. She felt a familiar surge build up in her groin as the caressing went on, relentlessly. Feeling herself come closer, she let go of the girl between her legs and folded her hands together on top of her head, gently yanking her own hair in fistfuls as the feeling built up inside of her.
"Fuck." She moaned at another flick of a tongue, "Right there, Grace."
It only took her a second to understand what had just happened. It took less than a second for the girl between her legs to abruptly stop and pull away. An uncomfortable cold wave hit her where warm hands and lips had been just seconds ago. Hannah dreaded to open her eyes, knowing nothing good was going to come from Asian thorn. Fuck.
