I never saw her again. 4 months passed. I won CEO of the year award. My crew celebrated the whole night but I didn't want to get wasted so I got out early. I wandered here and there thinking about her. All these years I wanted her. I loved her. But I never contacted her. I wanted to ask her how she was. How she was after all these years. She was a girl, an innocence was the best thing about her face. But the person I saw that day wasn't a girl. She was a grown up women. Taking care of her child. She had that innocence on her face but now maturity dominated her innocence.
I didn't go to work next day. I didn't feel like going. In the evening I went to park for jogging. I was passing by a bench when I saw her coming from the opposite direction. She didn't look at me as if she had no interest in her surroundings. I went past her but I turned around. Her girl was in baby cart. She was pushing the cart. She was lost in her thoughts.I followed her quietly. She sat down on a bench. She wasn't happy. I could see it on her face. All these years left marks on her face. I could see it. I went to her and sat on the empty space on the bench. "Hello Anna. " I said. She lifted her face up at once and looked at me. "Hello Nate." she had no expressions on her face. For a moment I thought she didn't recognise me but she called me by my name that means she remembered me. "How are you Anna? " I asked her. Those eyes still had those stars that I fell for. "I am fine Nate. How are you." she said plainly. " I am fine..." Few minutes went away in silence. She didn't say a word. I didn't know what to say. "All these years Anna .. All these years.." I couldn't say a word more. " Yes Nate all these years..." she smiled mockingly. "Where were you all these years?" she said. "I was working.." I said but soon I realized it wasn't enough. I had to fill the silence with more words. I explained:
"I went back. Produced more music. Got more fame. Then I came here. Started my company. I recently won CEO of the year title. Life was good but.. " I stopped. "But? " she said. "But I came to know it wasn't the answer. It wasn't what I was looking for or I wanted or what I needed all these years." She took a deep sigh. "I realised that too. But I got everything I wanted.  Or needed. Until life took it back and I realised it wasn't the answer." she said. " What did life take back Anna?" I asked. I started to get worried. "Nothing. I should be going Nate. Selena will be hungry. " She got up. I totally forgot about her daughter. "Oh.. This is the name of your daughter? She is really beautiful. How is her father? Is he a surgeon like you? " I asked faking a smile. Her face got pale she stumbled as she lost her balance. I held her shoulders briskly."I should go" She said, without looking at me
"If you find it reasonable can I get your contact number? I don't want to lose a good friend after seeing her after so long." I deliberately used the word friend. She was married and I didn't want her to face any inconvenience because of me . It's just that I couldn't let her go. I wanted to stay in touch with her. Even if she had a family. Just to know how she was doing. She gave me her land line number. And I quickly saved it. She left with Selena.
