[insert very elaborate murder case]
"you two did such a great job!", kyle exclaimed, "i still can't believe you two know each other!"
the detective proudly ran his fingers through his hair while a grin was making its way on his face.
"mi-, sheryl and i used to solve cases together back in the day.", he told shiho's boyfriend, scratching the back of his head, "well...until she moved."
kyle gazed at shiho with a hint of confusion.
"you can say i spent more time in tokyo than i'd like to admit.", she answered coldly, "and now i'm seeing that i had to completely avoid this entire country in order to escape that corpse magnet."
"wow", shinichi pouted, "now that hurts."
shinich, of course, noticed that shiho tried to not associate with him the best way she could and he didn't like it at all. so he tried to start a conversation
"the professor misses you a lot", he remarked, "he was just talking about you yesterday."
shiho's eyes softened at the mention of the professor. he knew this would happen; after all, professor agasa was like a dad to her.
"i miss him too. a lot", shiho replied, "could you tell him that?"
shinichi turned to her.
"why don't you tell him?", he asked, "he's here with me. you know, we can catch up then meet him."
shiho was about to decline. no association with people from your past life. she knew that. but her boyfriend was adamant on her seeing the professor. he didn't know who that professor was, but from that interaction his girlfriend just had with shinichi, he could tell that she truly cared for him.
"you go.", kyle said with a smile, "i'll take a taxi back to the hotel and wait for you there."
shiho was about to retort but her boyfriend kissed her and left.
she looked at him entering a taxi and sighed.
shinichi awkwardly smiled and told shiho to follow him for a walk. the restaurant wasn't that far away from where the professor and him were staying.
"sheryl murphy, you shouldn't be even talking to me.", he muttered, "witness protection, right?"
shiho nodded.
"and you're not wearing your ring.", she tried to push the topic away from her..
"you know about the ring.", shinichi avoided looking at her, then started to giggle, "you are such a fan! have you been googling my life!"
shiho rolled her eyes, "i'm not your fan. i was just curious."
after that statement, they were quiet. they kept walking, but an awkward silence and tension was around them. well, that was until shinichi decided to end it.
"ran broke up with me.", he let out a dry chuckle, "she said i was going insane trying to search for you."
shiho stopped.
"you were searching for me?"
the man in front of her nodded, "of course i did. though, i must admit; i should've known you'd pick out a variation of the name sherry."
he sat at a bench and gestured to her to sit next to him.
"kudo, i didn't know. i'm sorry.", the woman started to apologize. she was the main reason the love of his life broke up with him. she left horrible.
