the couple had arrived in fukuoka a week ago. shiho got to take a three day break while her boyfriend was in tokyo. when the two of them were reunited again, he talked her ear off for five hours straight. shiho didn't pay that much attention to his talk after the first two hours but she was truly glad that he enjoyed tokyo so much. when it was her turn to talk about how she spent those three days, she had to make up an elaborate story about meeting her school friends from here. she left horrible about having to lie to her boyfriend once again, but it's not like she had a a choice.

"just admit that this was the best vacation you've ever had in your life", shiho's significant other said before drinking a sip of water, "i'm such a great planner."

"don't get too cocky; for all we know something terrible might happen and completely ruin this vacation.", shiho replied, rolling her eyes at him.

the man in front of her jokingly sighed, "babe, please shut up before you accindentally manifest it."

suddenly, a frightening scream was heard throughout the whole restaurant. shiho had heard these kinds of screams plenty of times before. call it a force of habit, but she found herself running towards the voice she had just heard.

the reddish brown haired woman didn't know what was waiting for her on the other side of the restaurant; she just knew it wasn't anything good. her boyfriend was running after her, so she felt horrible if what she expected was true. if someone had actually died, he'd have to see their dead body and that's not something you can just get over in a matter of days.

shiho arrived at the scene, it wasn't hard to miss as there was a large crowd standing. Her suspicions were proven right as she saw a corpse lying on the restaurant floor. but what she didn't expect was for a certain detective to be there.

"fuck", she muttered.

maybe she had accidentally jinxed her vacation.

"it's too late, she already left us.", the detective said.

everyone around him gasped loudly. shinichi sweatdropped. he understood why the news was horrible but, come on, that lady did not look like she still had some life left in her after all that foam running from her mouth.

he looked around and asked a waiter to inform the manager about the murder, he commanded the waiter to lock the restaurant as soon as possible and to call the police.

the man nodded in agreement and went to the door.

shinichi took out the gloves he takes with him for these kinds of emergencies and examined the corpse, hoping to find more clues.

shiho was hiding behind the crowd. she was contemplating on just going back to her table or hiding in the bathroom until this whole thing ended.

"shinichi?? shinichi kudo??", her boyfriend, who had just arrived at the crime scene, had said.

shiho choked, especially once shinichi turned around and looked at her boyfriend.

"kyle barrett! from last week's case?", the detective said.

kyle grabbed his girlfriend, who was actually about to leave, as he walked up to shinichi.

shinichi eyes widened the second he noticed shiho's presence. she just avoided looking at him and stared at the floor.

"sheryl, this is the detective i told you about from the murder case i witnessed last week; shinichi kudo.", kyle introduced, "shinichi, this is my girlfriend sheryl murphy."

shiho stared at her boyfriend in confusion, "what murder case? you didn't say anything about that."

the man rolled his eyes, "i did. but i think you were too tired at that point to pay attention."

"wait a moment.", shinichi interrupted as he noticed this might turn into an argument, "sheryl? are you serious?"

"don't say anything about my name or i will ruin your life.", the woman said very fast in japanese so her boyfriend wouldn't understand.

shinichi faked a cough.

"long time no see, sheryl.", shinichi smirked, "would you mind helping me out with this case? for old time's sake."
