Cara was already home,
when i walked through the door.
she was at the kitchen counter,
pouring herself a cup of black coffee.

why are you drinking coffee?
it's the middle of the night.

she looked over,

nice to see you too,
Kev.

i shrugged and grabbed the cup,
she didn't need that.
i felt the buzz in my brain as a walked to the sink.
i heard Cara say,

Kev,
what the hell are you doing?

i poured the dark,
hot liquid down the drain.

you shouldn't be drinking coffee this late.

she marched over and grabbed the mug.

are you kidding me right now?

i laughed,
feeling a little dizzy.

your gonna be up all night,
your already a light sleeper.
i don't need you kicking me all night just because you can't get any shut eye.
wish you'd just die,
so i could get some sleep for once.

suddenly my cheek was burning,
i saw her hand fly by.

if you wanted me to die you shouldn't have asked me to be your wife.

it felt like a sun burn,
the place where she hit,
it stung like hell.
i grabbed her wrist and held it up,
i forced her against the wall behind her,
pinning her in place.

don't ever slap me again,

she tried to pull her wrist from my grasp,
but once she saw it was no use she got right into my face.

your drunk and high,
let go of me,

a snicker escaped me,

i'm not drunk,
Cara.

she shook her head,

then hear me out Kevin,
if you don't let go of me this second i will not marry you.
i won't be with you.
i will leave you.

my buzz was gone now,
if it wasn't already.
my grip was tighter now,
and i know it hurt because she flinched,
but just for good measure I grabbed her other wrist.

i am bigger,
stronger,
and smarter than you.
don't you dare threaten me.
we will be married,
and you will love me.

a glob of saliva shot from between my lips before i let her go,
she ran off,
tears streaming down her face.
