When I stepped out into the misty cool air from the surprisingly quietness of my house, I had only two things on my mind: what will today bring me, and why did I leave the house without a jacket, even after looking outside and noticing the dark clouds? I looked around my surroundings wearily. There seemed to be nobody out. I brushed my hazel hair out of my face, for it kept flying into it from all the wind. I walked about the neighborhood with no sense in where to go. I didn't mind it; I was used to walking for miles on end. My dad never bothered to take me anywhere himself, anyway.

There was a vacant lot a few blocks down from my house. Sometimes I would enjoy sitting there on the cool grass. I stopped doing it after a while after seeing a small kid getting beat up by Socs. The Socs were all the rich kids on the wealthy side of town. If you could guess, I'm not one of them. I was lucky I was a girl; they wouldn't dare beat a girl up no matter how tough I am.

I decided today I should try walking over to the vacant lot. It's not like a kid gets beat up there every day, and as I said, I was immune to it anyway. I noticed a bunch of boys playing football on the field. One was big and brawny. Another had huge sideburns that I couldn't believe were real. There was a small kid that looked awfully familiar. Then it had hit me: he was the one that was beat up by the Socs that one time. One of the guys, who seemed to be pretty tough, stopped and looked over at me. I realized I had stopped walking and was just staring at the group. I shoved my hands into my jeans and walking on quickly, avoiding eye contact. If I saw a tough guy I knew he meant trouble. Especially this guy. He eyed me strangely. I suddenly felt a touch on my shoulder.

"Why are you here?" One of the boys asked me. He had sparkling blue eyes. He was incredibly handsome. I noticed the grease held in his hair and realized I was dealing with greasers. Oh no, I thought.

"Just taking a walk," I told him, turning back around and trudging on.

"Hey, uh, if you want to join us you can," the boy said. I turned back. "we're uneven teams."

"Thanks, I'd love to," I told the boy, my tomboy side kicking in.

When I came over the first person I saw was a tall guy; his hair was brown and scraggly. His eyes were dark brown and just looking into them you could see his soul. He wore a thick brown leather jacket. I forced myself not to blush.

"Hey, who's this?" he asked me, slowly walking over.

"Lauren," I answered shyly.

"Well, Lauren, I'm goin' to the drive-in tonight, if you'd like to come."

"Would I?" A grin formed on my face. "So who's on my team?"

"Me, him, and him." the boy with the brown eyes said, pointing to the boy that invited me over and the other guy with the sideburns. "I'm Dallas, by the way." The boy with the sideburns whispered something to Dallas, and I heard Dallas say back, "Oh, shut up." He and the other one smiled and laughed. Dallas walked on, looking back at me every once in a while, smiling himself.

So that's it! I hope you enjoy!
