AMINEH
“You did great up there today, especially being so new,” Tyler commented as we walked out of the court room.
I had just won a case, my first win actually. I was pretty excited and all I could think about was telling Micah. But since we haven’t been on such good terms since yesterday; I decided I would just wait until I got home to tell him.
“Yeah, well I had a pretty good mentor,” I said referring to Tyler.
“Well, I am quite good at what I do huh?” Tyler said jokingly.
“Oh please don’t let that compliment go to your already big head Tyler.”
“Amineh, you can’t expect a compliment from someone as beautiful as you to not boost my confidence,” he said shamelessly flirting again. “But tradition here is that your first win gets you free drinks with me and some of the famous Starbird and Law crew. But since you are pregnant I guess we can do free dinner instead. What do you say?” Tyler asked hopefully.
“I really don’t know Tyler, I am already extremely tired and-”
“Oh, come on its only 730, and I will personally drop you off at home so you can be back with your husband by 10,” Tyler said interrupting me.
“Alright. Who is all going?” I asked hoping it was at least people I knew.
“It is usually Stacy, Thomas, Daniel, Jennifer, Brandon and me.”
Well as least I knew who Stacy and Thomas were, so it wouldn’t be that awkward.
“Okay, I’ll go but I can seriously only stay until 9. And I have to call Micah and tell him that he doesn’t have to come pick me up,” I said pulling my phone out to give my husband a call. Even though I was still irritated with him; I didn’t want him to be worried about me when he showed up and I wasn’t here. He would probably send out a search party or something.
The phone only rang once before he answered. Knowing Micah, he probably glued it to his hip just to make sure he didn’t miss another call after yesterday.
“Hey babe, what’s up? Everything okay? Did you get off early” he asked.
“Hey, yes and no. I was just calling to let you know that I am going out to eat with some of the people from my job and I probably won’t be home until around 9,” I said already knowing he would have 21 questions.
“Oh, okay. Did you need me to pick you up afterwards?”
“No, Tyler will give me a ride home.”
“Uh huh. So it’s just going to be you and Tyler eating together?” he asked. I could hear the jealousy in his voice.
“No Micah, it’ll be me, Tyler and like five other people from work.”
“And who suggested this dinner?” he asked like he didn’t already know the answer. I really hate it when he acted so jealous over people who paled in comparison to him.
“Micah stop. I’m going out with them tonight because it is some type of tradition here after you win a case. So, if you’re not home by the time I get there I’ll call and let you know I made it in okay.” I said just wanting to end the call because the questioning was getting frustrating.
I think he got the idea that I just wasn’t in the mood for his jealousy at the moment. “Alright babe. Congrats on winning the case and I’ll see you when you get home. I love you.”
