im gonna try out first person for this chapter. if I like it, i'll keep it. if not, then i'll go back to third person.

   "Max! Max!"

I turned around, seeing Preston running up to me with a big grin on his face. I couldn't help but smile, too.

It was Monday. Two days after that all went down. Nobody was that surprised at Nurf's absence. He skipped school a lot, after all. Little did they no that he wouldn't be returning for a loooong time...

"Did you see the posters?" Preston exclaimed.

"Eh? What posters?"

"The ones talking about the new play! Aren't you excited?!"

I shrugged, turning back to my locker. "I dunno. What play is it?"

"It's this really underrated musical! It's called 'Urinetown'!"

I scofferd, glancing at the taller male. "What kinda name is that? Sounds dumb."

"I know, I know.. but it's really a great show! Lots of plot twists and an anticlimactic ending, which you don't see very often!"

"Maybe I'll check it out," I decided, opening up my locker. I hung up my backpack, closed the locker door, and turned around to see Preston still standing there.

"Pleaaaaase?"

I tried to ignore the blush on my face due to the adorable and irresistible puppy eyes he was giving me. "Please what?"

"Please audition!"

I stared at him for a few seconds, before shaking my head. "Fine. Whatever. It's not like I'll actually get cast or anything."

I walked with Preston to our first class, which luckily we shared. "So... who are you gonna audition for?" I asked, trying to break the silence.

"I'm glad you asked! I think I'm going to audition for the main antagonist. His name is Caldwell B. Cladwell, isn't that something?" He said with a chuckle. "He's a very dramatic character, I think I would be fitting for the role! Plus, his songs are to die for-!"

"You're rambling."

"Oh- my apologies."

"Eh, it's fine. There's worse things I could be listening to," I shrugged as we entered the classroom, sitting at our respective seats after muttering quiet 'goodbye's.

All throughout language arts, I couldn't help but think about how Preston's eyes lit up when he got excited... how he smiled, his hair bouncing. It looked so fluffy...

"Max, hello?"

My head shot up. "Huh? What?"

The teacher shook her head. "Did you hear my question?"

"Uh... no," I admitted.

She just sighed, calling on someone else. Props to her.

I crossed my arms on my desk, closing my eyes as I laid my head on top of them. My last conscious thought was seeing an image of Preston's smile...

Ugh.

That damned smile.
