Chelona sat in her throne as the public dispersed slowly back to their houses. Most looked as exhausted as she felt. Fenrys was arguing with his sister and King Aillard had almost drunk the whole tankard of wine. Rhea, on the other hand, hadn't touched her wine. Had Chelona's father not touched his wine either, he might've been alive to see the day his daughter got married.

When the hall was empty albeit the royals and their inner circles, Chelona got up.

"I will be in my chambers. Excuse me," she said in a quiet hardly audible voice. She turned and fled out of there, without turning back half an inch. She could almost feel the concerned eyes of Rhea and Asterin boring into her.

She launched herself down on her bed, knowing very well that this might as well

be her last night in this chamber. Her eyes raked over the room she'd slept in for the seventeen years of her life. Over the ornate mirror, over the futon and the carpet. Chelona wanted to cry, because tomorrow onwards, she would be someone else, this will be someone else's state, house, people.

But she didn't let the tears get the better of her. She wouldn't. Ever.

She was a queen, and it was high time she started acting like it.

She lay awake for several hours before Laura entered her chambers to wake her up for the big day ahead. She wasn't expected to leave the maiden's chambers until late afternoon- when the ceremonies would begin. Many priests and priestesses had been called to oversee the marriage and to bless the ceremony. Hoards of Fenrys' cousins and family had filed in, embracing her, shaking her hand.

A thought nudged at her. No longer would you be Chelona Castellanos, but you would be Fenrys' bride. She shook it away, nothing could be done.

Laura's eyes remained on Chelona. And Chelona knew that somehow, Laura knew what she felt about her marriage. But Chelona kept reminding herself, nothing could be done. Fenrys was a good man, he would not make her regret this.

But a small part of her whispered that she would never fall in love with him. And she knew that. She also knew that she would never be able to tell him that either.

The winter sun was peeking in through the windows, illuminating the room. Laura finally turned her full attention towards Chelona. Her emerald eyes shone.

"Are you okay?"

Chelona didn't answer. She only fixated her gaze on the carpet at her feet, tears already forming. She tightened her grip on the bed on which she was seated.

I will not cry. I will not cry. I will notcry.

"Yes," she choked out. "I'm fine. It's the happiest day of my life. I'm getting married to a handsome noble prince. I'm being crowned queen of my state. What more could I ever ask for?"

Laure said nothing, but crossed the room in a few long strides. She cupped Chelona's face in her hands and knelt down until her face was directly in front of Chelona's.
