The first time Harper had ever been to La Push was for a family reunion. That was two years ago and during the warmer months. She had met her distant relatives, the Clearwaters: Sue, Harry, Seth, and Leah. Emily insisted on calling them all cousins. Even though Harper was sure they were like third cousins or second aunts and uncles or something ridiculous like that.

It was a great reunion. The entire group went out onto First Beach and did the whole Summer shebang of a BBQ and a potluck. Each adult trying to one-up each other, however, she was sure Seth and herself were just trying to eat the most food without barfing.

It was safe to say that La Push was different in the winter. It wasn't cold enough to be snowy, but there was the slightest hint at some ice that morning. Not much different than her hometown in the slightest. It lacked the warmth and seemed cold and uninviting in every way. Maybe that was just Harper trying to psych herself out, but she thought differently.

"New town, new me," Harper mumbled to herself as she pulled into the driveway to Emily's cozy cabin that she was sharing with her fiancée, Sam. Sam could suck it for all Harper could care about that whole Leah-Emily fiasco. She still could not believe-

Harper closed her eyes and shook her head, knowing if she was pissed off at Sam it would definitely show. The girl simply grabbed her bag that rested in the passenger seat before jumping out from her jeep. Harper gave herself a small smile in satisfaction at not landing flat on her ass. It took years of practice. The girl carefully made her way to the door, pulling at the sleeves at her heavy jacket before knocking.

It took only two seconds for the door to open and for Emily to pull her into a hug. Her aunt had always been affectionate. Hell, maternal was the better word to describe Emily. Harper had spent the better part of her childhood growing up with Emily and Grandpa, spending the occasional weekend with Sue and Harry. They were more sisters or cousins than aunt and niece given the minimal age difference of four years. Her dad and Emily, however, were quite a ways apart in the age department.

Harper quickly relaxed in Emily's embrace before parting to look around at Emily's house. It was a hand me down from the family. The proper way to describe it was cozy or lived in. You could tell that people loved it here. Her eyes drifted from the calendar on the refrigerator of chores and work schedules to the knick-knacks decorating the halls. For a second she wondered if Emily had already had kids. The thought dissipated from her mind quickly knowing that Emily would have surely had her help with the babyshower.
