Chapter XVIII

The aftermath

Midorya falling to the ground tears in his eyes as he tightened his fist "Chikushō!!" *damn it*

Todoroki silently walked up to his best friend not knowing what exactly to say but he knew his friend was hurting. He had the biggest heart out of anyone he had ever met and tried to help everyone in need, so seeing this must have crushed him. todoroki got to him only placing a hand on his shoulder as he watched the marks of drying tears in the cracked cement.

"I know it's our job to try and save as many lives as we can but sometimes all we can do is try," he paused trying to find the right words.

"sometimes we won't be able to save as many people as we would like but that doesn't mean we should give up trying or stop being a hero." he said looking down at his friend.

"I may not like his ideals but rationally speaking he may have been right, if you take it into comparison one life or thousands. Who's to say we would be able to stop him if he manages to get out. I'm not saying it's right or it's easy but, it was the lesser of two evils and I'm sure he knew that too." todoroki said as he turned away.

"but that is just my opinion." he said giving his friend one last look before walking to the group who was now informing the police and other hero's that came to help with the damage caused.

Midorya just looked at the ground stained with his tears as he didn't want to move he just felt lost, helpless, like he was that frail quirkless 14 year old all over again and his stomach sank as he felt coldness enter his body that ached at his bones that had only rested for a short amount of time this whole day.

"Why so down midorya shonen?" all might said placing a hand on his back.

Midorya tenses at the warmth of his hand, he didn't say a word humming an acknowledgment not wanting to face his idol, mentor and father figure like this. to see him down and defeated.

"Quite the day huh." he said looking out at the destroyed city as hero's around them helped in the cleaning and aiding of civilians.

"I couldn't save them," midorya said in a low voice "I couldn't stop them either." his voided died out before speaking again "so many people got hurt and I," he forced himself to speak has he felt the words getting caught in his throat and the air was only holding them back.

"I was no match for them. I... I couldn't do anything." he said feeling tears prick at his eyes as he clutched his fist and looked up at the man he admired his entire life.

"Midorya my boy that's alright," all might said as a sad smile decore his face "there will always be moments like these in a hero's life. doesn't make you any less of a hero, that just means we must work that much harder to prevent them from happening again. We may not always be able to save everyone." he said looking into the horizon as the sun set over the ruble. "we're not gods, some may feel like we are but at the end of the day we're all just humans. Granted we've been gifted with extraordinary powers but we're still human and we're not perfect, we may fail or make mistakes but as humans we learn from those failures, our mistakes and strive to become better than we were yesterday, so don't hold yourself down young midorya instead raise yourself higher tomorrow than you did today." he said helping him up as he smiled at him and midorya nodded wiping the tears from his eyes as he held his side.

"Hai!" he nodded

"And always remember Izuku my boy, your never alone." he said as they turned to look at the group as they watched as recovery girl lined everyone up to get treated.

"Hurry young one we can't dilly dally on a patient to long." recover girl said as she approached midorya.

"Yes recover girl sensie." eri said hurrying to catch up to the older women as she ran up to them. "combat medic hero Eri here," she said before looking up to see who it was "ah!, midorya San." she said smiling as she then noticed the wounds that covered his body "oh your hurt I'll help." she said as she then wrapped her hands around his arm and her horn glowed steadily as her power flowed to midorya and he felt his body heal and when the light faded his body was as good as new "there all better." she said giving him a smile.

"Thanks you eri Chan." he said smiling back

"I see you have grown yet again since the last time we met at your entrence ceremony." midorya said placing a hand on her head

"I'm not a little girl anymore midorya San, I've been training with aizawa sensie and miro ni Chan, and now I'm one of the top students in my second year class." she said

"I see" midorya said as a smile crossed his face "So should I be worried about my number one spot in the future." he laughed

"You can bet your limited edition all might hoodie I'll be take the number one spot soon enough." Eri said with a smirk.

"Well when you get your provisional license don't be afraid to drop by the agency if your looking to get started on being a hero." He said giving her a smile

"Really!" she said as he eyes lit up and you could see the excitement radiating off her literally as her horn glowed and the surroundings began to change as if nothing ever happened.

"Hey missy we can't have you altering the crime scene as we need all the evidence we can get." said two police men near them

"Oops gomen'nasai" *sorry* she said doing a quick bow "but I'll be sure to give you a call when I do." she said smiling

"I look forward to it." midorya said as him and all might walked back to the rest of the group to call it a day.
