Three weeks passed and Jack's recent efforts about his his father's situation proved to be futile.

He inquired from popular laboratories and heavy chemical industries about the records of their recent production and dispensation of sodium cyanide.

Some laboratories insisted on not giving him informations, despite Jack's politeness and professionalism towards them.

Sometimes he thought of getting a fake forensic ID and impersonating a CSI.

But that would get him into more trouble.
He hit a wall and actually hit a wall whenever his methods were abortive.

Jack couldn't join his mother to visit his father in jail.
He felt like a looser; he always promised his father he will get him released from jail.

His father always told him not to do anything or rather not tell him about it.
He said the most dangerous thing for an inmate was "hope".

"Jack!" Mrs Anne knocked on the door.

"It's open mom!" Jack yelled gently.

"Honey, am leaving now, are you sure you're not coming?" Mrs Anne asked.

"Yes mom! Besides, I'll be going for soccer training". Jack said.

"Your dad asked how you've been and I told him..."

"I know what you told him mom" Jack interrupted as he smirked and looked away.

"Honey, it's been five years now, how are you sure the criminal hasn't even died?" Mrs Anne asked.

"I don't think he's dead mom, my instincts tell me".
"Whoever killed that man must be executed" Jack said with utmost surety.

"Wow, okay how are you sure someone else hasn't killed him?" Mrs Anne asked raising a brow".

"He is the killer... W..well whatever mom, am sure he is still alive and in this city". Jack said getting off from the bed.

"What makes you think so?" Mrs Anne asked.

"Look at this". Jack got close to his crime board.

"There have been regular shipments of cocaine and more cases of drug trafficking from multiple sources". Jack detached a newspaper from his board and showed it to his mom.

"Luckily for the trafficker, he has been untraceable by the police". Jack said with his hands akimbo.

"Well, it's funny how you still read newspapers. Okay Jack, am gonna leave now. It's almost visiting hours".
Mrs Anne walked out of the room".

"Bye mom! Tell dad to hang in there". Jack flung the newspaper on his bed.

"No, I won't honey!" Mrs Anne said.

"Of course you won't" Jack muttered.

Mrs Anne opened the door leading to the porch just as Maya was about pushing the doorbell button.

"Oh, good afternoon Mrs Anne!" Maya greeted.

"Thank you sweetie... Wait, it's afternoon already?" Mrs Anne said looking at her watch.

"Oh goodness, I've gotta go, Jack is inside. Oh and please tell him to do his laundry; I think he will listen to you" Mrs Anne said hurriedly.

"Okay Mrs Anne, goodbye!" Maya waved.

Maya knocked on Jack's door and hid.

"Mom!, haven't you gone yet? You're gonna be late". Jack said.

There was no response.

"Mom..." Jack called again as he turned and looked at the door. Still no response.
