Chapter 3: Eric's Birthday
Ella sat on Donna's bed, watching her pace back and forth. She drank her cola and waited for Donna to tell her why she'd asked her over here.
"I kissed him," Donna said quickly, stopping and staring at Ella like a deer caught in the headlights. "I mean he didn't actually kiss back but...El what should I do?"
"You're talking about Airhead right?" She asked her brows raised.
"Of course," Donna ran a hand through her hair and flopped back on the bed. "Is it a bad sign that he didn't kiss back?"
"Well how did you do it?"
"It was a quick peck."
"So did you like, surprise him?"
Donna stilled. "Crap...so it's not a bad sign? Maybe we can do it again?"
"That's really up to you," Ella played with the ends of her dirty blonde hair. "Going off of that, I think Hyde and I almost had a moment."
"What do you mean?"
"Well I think he wanted me to go instead of Jackie," Ella shrugged. "And he was gonna ask me something but he didn't."
Donna had to fight down a smirk, she knew what he wanted to ask but couldn't say anything.
"So, your birthday is coming up, any ideas on what you want?"
"Well I was really hoping for the new Zeppelin album, or maybe something for my dance recital. I really need some new pointe shoes, but I don't think mom and dad can afford the pair I want."
"Well good to know."
"What are you getting Erica?"
"I don't know, I was thinking of asking Jackie," Donna gave Ella a side glance.
"Go ahead, she'd know more than me since she's such a girl," both girls laughed.
"Oh Donna, before I forget," Ella smiled excitedly. "I got the lead in Swan Lake!"
"No way!" Donna hugged the smaller girl tightly. "That's so bitchin! I'll be there to see you be an amazing swan!"
"Thanks." Ella couldn't help the happy feeling in her chest.

Everyone was down in the basement and Ella was stuck upstairs to help her mom bake some cupcakes for Eric's party that he didn't want.
"Hey baby sister," a sneering voice from the kitchen door said.
"I thought I felt a chill," Ella replied as she turned to greet her older sister.
"Why Eleanor, look at you, you look so grown up!" Laurie beamed. "What are you like 12 now?"
"Ha, 15," Ella rolled her eyes. "Why are you here?"
"For Eric's dumb birthday," Laurie replied, she was hauling a mesh bag behind her.
"More likely you ran out of clothes," Ella quipped.
The swinging door that lead to the living room swung open and Red walked in. "Well look at that, my two beautiful girls!" He walked over and embraced his oldest. "How's school sweetheart?"
"Really great daddy, everyone is super nice." Laurie said in her overly sweet voice she only saved for their father.
"Whore," Ella coughed.
"Ella," Red warned. "We talked about this, be nice to your sister."
"I'm always nice," Ella stated as she began to make her way to the basement. She hurled herself down the stairs, to get away from her fakey sister.
