Chapter 12: Stars on Her Dress, Bruises on Her Heart

Over the course of the next week Ella didn't spend much time at home. She knew it was childish to avoid Hyde after telling him to prove his feelings for her. She was terrified he'd decide she really wasn't worth the trouble.

After the whole pregnancy scare Jackie broke up with Kelso. To the surprise of none, she could be seen pining over the idiot almost everywhere.

Ella was currently sitting on Donna's bed with Jackie. Donna was showing off her prom attire.

"These are the shoes I got, aren't they cool?" They were pretty silver, strappy, kitten heels.

"That color is so pretty!" Ella held out her hands to take the shoes to examine them closer.

"I was gonna get new shoes," Jackie started excitedly. "But Michael never asked me."

"And what about my prom dress!" Donna skipped over to her closet door and pulled it off. It was periwinkle in color and floor length. Ella set the shoes down and jumped up.

"Wow, I wish I had a dress this pretty."

"I was gonna get a prom dress, but Michael didn't ask me." Jackie's woes fell on deaf ears. Ella couldn't help rolling her eyes at her friend's dramatics.

"Are you going to come?" Donna asked Ella, trying to stay upbeat despite Jackie's whining.

"No one's asked me." Ella shrugged. It wasn't totally true, Connor had asked but she hadn't given an answer yet.

"You're totally lying," Jackie said, forgetting her own plight for the moment. Donna narrowed her eyes on her best friend.

"Ok, Connor did, but I'm kind of waiting...forHydetoaskme." She mumbled the last part quickly.

"Why don't you go with Connor? He's nice." Donna asked as she hung her dress back up. "Besides, Hyde's not a dance type of guy."

"At least you got asked," Jackie flopped dramatically on the bed again.

"Did you get a dress anyway?" Donna asked.

"Mom was over excited about the prospect," Ella admitted.

"Ok, no offense El, but I'm nervous about prom. I think it might be mine and Eric's first time." Ella cringed at the mention of her brother's sex life.

"I so, don't have an opinion on that," she shuddered.

Jackie sighed dramatically. "It was going to be Michael and I's first time then too."

"Whatever! You and Kelso did it like three months ago," Ella shook her head.

"And like 30 times after that," Donna scoffed.

"Ok fine, but it would have been the first time at a prom." Jackie grumbled. She began to tear up.

"Jackie, you broke up with him, remember?" Ella put an arm around the sad girl.

"Let's go get a snack," Donna suggested. The two led their friend to the kitchen. "Look, why don't you just ask him?"

Jackie and Ella both gasped at Donna. "No way!"

"This isn't the time for your stupid feminist crap! This is prom!" Jackie looked so affronted as they sat down.

"Besides that, do you know how bad it would hurt to get shot down?" Ella shook her head.

Just then the door opened and Eric walked in with Kelso in tow.

Jackie looked up at the boys, trying to look as if she wasn't affected at all. "Hello Michael." She said coolly.
