Ella stood freezing in the winter like air, she was waiting with her family for Laurie and a friend to show up on the bus.

"Dad, her bus still isn't here, can we please go wait in the car?" Eric asked, trying to keep his teeth from chattering.

"I'm not wasting gas just so you can be comfortable," Red shook his head, hands stuffed deep in his pockets.

"Could we at least go inside?" Ella asked sidling closer to the building. Kitty grabbed her and stopped her.

"We're not going in that bus station with those people," Ella sighed and huddled closer to her mother in an attempt to get some warmth.

"Stupid bus," Ella grumbled.

"Eric with Laurie bringing her friend home, you're gonna be sleeping in the basement," Kitty said.

"The basement! Why do I have to? Make her take Ella's room!" Eric argued.

Ella shot her brother a withering glare. "I don't want some college skank in my room."

"Ella language," Kitty admonished. "Red I've also been thinking, maybe we should skip the big turkey. The little ones are on sale at the Piggly Wiggly."

"This family doesn't scrimp on holidays," Red said firmly. "Can you imagine my mother sitting down to a chicken?"

"Like it matters," Ella scoffed, not too fond of her paternal grandmother.

"She doesn't eat my cooking anyway," Kitty grumbled.

"Dad they should sleep in the basement!" Eric argued.

"Red last year she said her jaw wasn't strong enough to chew the turkey. That was a magnificent turkey." Kitty stated, Ella put an arm around her mother.

Eric and Kitty started to complain in tandem until Red finally had enough. "That's it hold it!" He looked between his children and wife. "Now Kitty, don't get worked up about my mother, same for you Ella." Ella rolled her eyes and turned from Red. "And you, you're sleeping in the basement. I'm not kicking Ella out of her room. We're all gonna have a happy damn thanksgiving and like it!"

Eric looked ready to protest again when Laurie and her friend came skipping over. "Mommy, daddy! This is Kate." She introduced the blonde, both smiling widely. Kitty quickly hugged her daughter, then ran for the car. As Laurie was hugging their father Ella picked up her sister's suitcase.

"You must be freezing, let's get in the car." Red led Laurie away to the car quickly.

"Bitch," Ella huffed watching her sister.

"So you're Eric? Your sister didn't mention how cute you were," Kate said flirtatiously. Ella scoffed and rolled her eyes. "We're gonna have so much fun this weekend." She smiled and handed Eric her suitcase as she walked past.

"Slut," Ella wrinkled her nose as she watched her brother basically drool over the older woman. "Let's go dumbass." She basically dragged him to the car where their family waited.

Back at the house they started unpacking Laurie and Kate's stuff.

"Go get Kate settled in your room," Red handed her suitcase to Eric, who eagerly accepted it.

"Oh and don't forget to show her all your G.I. Joes!" Laurie called after him teasingly.

Eric gave her a sarcastic smile. "Oh good idea! That'll give you time to tell dad about that professor you're dating." Ella snorted.

"What?" Red scowled back at his oldest.

"Dad, he's joking," Laurie assured her father, giving Eric the stink eye.
