Into the swirling gaze

*Jhana's POV*

I finished chewing my toast and jumped into Zack's truck. I loved his truck. I had always wanted one exactly like this. It was a small Nissan thing. It only had a bench seat in the front and it was purpley red. I loved his truck and I usually made an excuse so I could ride with him and ogle at his truck.

Zack's chuckle broke me out of my revere and I blushed, quickly buckling myself into the seat. Zack pulled out of the driveway and sped down the highway towards school. He turned the music on and 'Love Me' by JJ Heller blasted out of the speakers. I squealed in delight and turned it up louder, closing my eyes and getting washed into the music. JJ Heller was my all time favourite singer and she was my biggest role model, after Mitch of course.

I don't remember when I started singing; all I know is that my voice was soon soaring with every chord. I had been singing since I could walk. Singing was my passion. I loved it, and it was one thing I could do to keep the pain of my dads' disappearance off of my mind. He had disappeared three years ago, with no word or explanation. I was still silently hoping he would come back, but I knew deep in my heart that he wouldn't.

Who will love me for me

Not for what I have done or what I will become

Who will love me for me

'Cause nobody has shown me what love

What love really means

The words hung in the air around me, sitting like a load of bricks on my shoulders. These words perfectly described my life after my dad left. I had to constantly keep reminding myself day after day that he really did love me, and so did my mom even if she was never home. My family loved me, so did my friends. I couldn't really ask for anything more.

As the last words died off my lips, I opened my eyes and found Zack's eyes staring intently at me. They were beautiful and I always got sucked into them. I loved Zack with all of my heart, but I would never touch him because he was my brothers best friend. There was no way I was going to put him through that, although the look in Zack's eyes right now plucked my heart into a constant beating motion. It was so full of love and wonder that I had to look away. I looked up, right into the headlights of an oncoming semi.

"Zack!" My scream pierced the silence following the song, "Look out!"

Zack's eyes snapped back to the road, "SHIT!" he swore and then swerved out of the way. We bounced over the guardrails of the bridge and plunged, nose first, into the frigid, icy waters of the river below. I hit my head on the window and the last thing I remember before everything went black was Zack's panicked face turned towards me.

*Zack's POV*

I chuckled as Jhana drooled over my truck. She had always loved my truck and I knew she wanted one just like it, which was exactly why I was going to give her mine when she turned 17 next week. She grinned at me and buckled up her seatbelt as I pulled into the street. I got onto the highway and started on the way to school. I turned the radio on to fill the silence and her face lit up as 'Love Me' by JJ Heller came on.

Her eyes drifted shut and her voice started soaring with the words. Every time I heard her sing I fell more and more in love with her. That's right, I was in love with my best friends younger sister. I didn't tell him of course because then he would hurt me and tell me to leave her alone. So, for  now, I just had to deal with being her friend.

Her voice hit every note perfectly, rising and falling in the way no one could ever sing. She made JJ Heller sound bad, which is really hard considering she's an amazing signer as is. As her voice died off, I knew I was staring, but I couldn't stop myself. She was so gorgeous. Everything about her was perfect, from her blonde hair and tanned skin, to her sparkling mischievous green eyes. I loved everything about her.

Her eyes opened and she stared at me. I knew my eyes were filled with the love I felt for her, but I couldn't look away. Her eyes filled with love, and I knew my heart was about to burst, until she pulled away from my gaze with a blush, looking out the front window.

"Zack!" She screamed, "Look out!"

I pulled my gaze to the front window and swore. There was a semi coming directly in our path. I knew I was on the wrong side of the road. I should have paid more attention. I jerked the wheel to the right, and we hit the guardrail, and continued to fall. The swirling black reached up to swallow us, almost as if it was in slow motion. I looked at her in panic, and saw her hit her head and pass out.

"I love you, Jhana!" I whispered, before we plunged into the river.
