The time had come.

Owen knew full well what he was going to do and how he would do it, he now had a clear head and no lingering thoughts floating around.

Mel noticed him looking very distracted and that wasn't like him so she approached him, fearing it was about Abby he was acting this way

"Owen"

Owen snapped out of thoughts and looked at Mel

"....yeah? What's up?" He asked as she stood next to him

"You thinking about Abby? Or having second thoughts about all this?"

Owen glanced at the carpet for a few moments then gently grasped her arm "Come with me, for a second, we got to talk in private"

Mel looked at the others and back to Owen

"Okay, sure" she said, allowing him to lead her away to a lone room with the long flaps for shades. (The room where Ellie enters, reader)

As soon as Owen let go of Mel's arm he closed the door and stepped over to the other window, he knew he was outnumbered, the moment he would go stray, but if someone close to him knew what was going on other than just him, maybe Mel would be the perfect choice since she listened to him and supported him the most better than Abby even, Mel was his girlfriend after all too

"What is going on, Owen?" she sighed, and Owen let out a short sigh as well and answered

"I'm about to tell you something but it must stay between us and only us, Mel, got that?" He said seriously "it's a delicate matter"

"Ok, ok, What is it?" She asked

"Remember that kid, that escaped?"

Mel frowned her brows a bit "yes? Why..?"

"He's my nephew..."

Mel looked very shocked "what??" She glanced at the door and covered her mouth she stepped over to Owen near the window and spoke in a softer tone "Oh my god, Owen, are you serious?"

"Dead serious" he nodded and Mel touched his arm

"That's why you let him escape?" She assumed and Owen once again, nodded to her "I should've known"

"Yeah, but he's coming back, with more people to rescue his father if he should get trapped...and I'm gonna use that opportunity to help him and then leave the group for good"

The words hit Mel so fast that she almost couldn't believe that this was Owen in front of her, she blinked twice

"Okay...and when is this all going to go down?"

"As soon as Abby returns" he answered, Mel sighed tensely

"Speaking of which, What about Abby, Owen?" She asked, crossing her arms "nephew or not, she's not going to let the kids father go free, or let this betrayal your thinking of slide by either"

"I know that" Owen looked down "believe me I know, but Mel, That's where you come in, I need your help with distracting her

Mel once again looked shocked "Me? ...I don't know Owen..."

"Listen...Mel" he said as his voice shook "I'm tired of all this bloodshed...everything Abby has done...I can't take it anymore...I couldn't do this just by myself..and you're the only one I know that will listen...so please...help me with this and we can both be free of this shit"

Mel looked at him, she was shocked about everything this crazy man was saying to her

"...W-When did you find out he was your nephew?" She asked
