Clary glanced at Jace only to see him looking back at her. They quickly looked away from each other, him looking angered and she blushing madly. Jonathan stepped inside, his eyes flashing around the room. Finally they settled on Clary, his black orbs pouring into her green ones. She looked away and heard him chuckle as he reached his arms out and clasped his hands on her hips, closing the distance between them quickly. "I'm so glad that you're okay, little sis! I was worried sick about you!" He said before burying his head in her neck. Of course, always taking the chance to act. She was engulfed in a hug that barely allowed her to breath, but as she looked over his black, clothed shoulder, she spotted Jace turning away as though the sunlight behind them burned his eyes. "We should go somewhere to talk," Jonathan whispered in her ear. She nodded slightly and pulled away from him. "Jace?" He turned slowly and raised an eyebrow at her. "Is there somewhere I can go to talk to my brother and not be interrupted?" He nodded quickly and began walking down the hall with Jonathan and Clary following. Jace halted in front of a room which appeared to be a normal bedroom. Jace stepped in with the others following and closed the door behind them as well as turning on the light. The little bulb of light illuminated the whole and Clary finally realized that the sun had long since set painting the sky a deep blue, but looking around the room looked the same as Jace's although without the personal touches. When she turned around Jonathan and Jace seemed to be locked in a stare down so she took her brother's hand and tugged him away, once again Jace's eyes flashed, sparking her curiosity.
"Out." Jonathan said firmly and Jace shook his head.
"We have allowed you here, but Clary is still in our care thus giving me a right to stay and protect her."
"Protect her from her own brother?" Jonathan chuckled. "You think I would hurt my own sister?"
Jace didn't say anything, but his expression was enough for Jonathan. "Fine! You can stand outside the door, but that's as close as you should be!" His voice was risen and Clary wondered why he seemed so upset.
"Um, no can do. Sorry." But Jace's smirk proved that he wasn't sorry at all. Finally it seemed that neither boy was going to give in and that Clary would be forced to step in. Why did women always have to do the work? It was like an old saying that she remembered her mother always repeating: Men may be stronger, but it is women who endure.
She sighed and spoke up, "Jace, please just stand outside the door. We won't be longer than ten minutes." The talking cut off as soon as she began and she found after speaking that Jace was staring at her angrily although it softened when she met his eyes, and Jonathan was staring at Jace looking as though he was about to kill him. Neither were a pleasant sight until Jace nodded, glared at Jonathan and left, leaving the door completely open while he leaned against the wall to the left of the room. Jonathan then stalked to the door and slammed it closed, putting his weight against it and turning his fiery gaze to Clary talking in a normal voice so she was sure that Jace could hear. "You failed us, you failed me and you failed our father. You failed your duty overall. And you know what that calls for? The death of a loved one." He smirked. "Now, who should I go for? Your mother or the boy outside of this door?" Clary's heart stopped. "What?"
