Camila woke up to a good morning text message from Shawn. Oddly, it made Camila's heart flutter and her cheeks flush pink.

Shawn
Good morning:) you want a ride to school?

Camila
Morning:) okay!

Shawn
I'll see you in 30 mins.

Shawn wanted to get to know her for her. He truly didn't care about his popularity or his looks. If anything, he'd give that all away if it meant he could have her. He found himself crazy for thinking such a thing after just a day of getting to know her. But, he couldn't help himself around her. His hands got sweaty and his breath got caught in his throat at just the mere sight of her.

He sent her a quick text that he was here and almost immediately, she made her way out the door. As always, she looked beautiful. It was a warmer day here in Canada so she stuck with some light blue jeans and a white v neck shirt. It was such a simple outfit but she made it seem like something so elegant. The perks of her beauty, Shawn supposed.

"Thanks for the ride." She giggled, softly. "Don't thank me. Anyways, are you...are you free tonight?" Shawn looked at her for just a second before glueing his eyes back on the road, his fingers tapping the wheel in anticipation of her answer.

"Yeah. Wouldn't want to be home." She chuckled, brushing it off but soon realized that she had said that out loud. She didn't mean for it to slip out, it just did. He parked in the school parking lot and before Camila could get the chance to escape, he gripped her hand in his. She looked at him, scared and confused. "Why...why wouldn't you want to be home?" He rubbed the back of her hand, reassuringly.

Camila thought that she'd never tell anyone about what went on in her home life but with Shawn, she felt safe and comfortable. Almost like she could tell him anything, bad or good, and he'd still support her.

She took a deep breath, in attempts to not start crying. "It's nothing, really. My parents...they're just constantly fighting."

Shawn's heart broke at the sight of how lost she looked. He would never in a million years imagine her to be someone so broken. "I'm so sorry...I'm so, so...sorry." He shook his head before leaning in to place a gentle kiss on her head. She smiled, "it's okay." Shawn knew that it wasn't but that's exactly why he wanted to take her out tonight. "Do you have a curfew?" Shawn asked and Camila shook her head, "they fight so much that they barely notice I'm still breathing." She chuckled, pathetically. Shawn's heart cracked at that, "okay...tonight, we're going to have fun."

School went by extremely slow for Shawn due to the excitement that bubbled in his chest for what was to come. He wanted to do something simple but yet, he knew she'd like it.

Camila assured him that she'd walk home but he called her crazy and drove her home instead. "I'll pick you up at 6...is that okay?" He looked towards her with a gentle smile. "Yeah. I'll see you later, Shawn." She hugged him goodbye before giddily skipping into her house.

The next three hours of waiting was a pain but she heard his car drive into her driveway. Suddenly, she got all nervous again. As much as she tried to shake it off, she couldn't.

He informed her that he'd wait on the porch which he did but Camila hated that because then he'd hear the screaming match that was taken place on the floor below her.

"You never do anything around this fucking house, Ale!" Sinu screamed and Shawn could hear it loud and clear. "I never do anything? I provide for this family! You...you do nothing!"

Camila sighed, walking out of her house and shutting the door immediately. "I'm so sorry." She looked up at him with glassy eyes and all Shawn could do was engulf her in a sweet hug. "It's okay...forget about that. We're going to have fun." He felt her smile graze across his neck which made his heart want to burst out of his chest.

"What's your ice cream flavour?" He asked her, wrapping his arm around her shoulder as they entered the ice cream parlour. "Cookie dough." She said before asking him, "I always go for a strawberry." He shrugged, moving to pay which Camila fought with him about. "My treat, Mila." He said, simply. Camila huffed but went along with it. They didn't stay in the ice cream parlour long because Shawn had somewhere else he wanted to show her.

Camila was impressed with the view. It was their school's soccer field but farther along that was a hill and at the top was just a fresh layer of grass that the two laid upon. Their bodies were inches apart as they stargazed. It felt unreal to Camila, this was only something she dreamed about. Maybe it wasn't with Shawn but him being here made things a whole lot better.

"Can I ask you something?" He asked, bringing his gaze to Camila's, still lying on the grass. "Mhm." She nodded. "Why don't...I never see you at parties or anything...why don't you go?"

She sighed. "Well...I just...I like fantasize about doing all these things...like a life that's not mine. Quite the opposite, actually because...it's easier. It's easier to just imagine yourself doing it rather than having to actually do it. I know, it sounds stupid." She sat up, looking down at the grass and Shawn followed her, hooking his finger under her chin so that she could look at him. He smiled, softly at her, "I don't think it's stupid. Although, it wouldn't hurt to just try new things." He rubbed the side of her face with one hand and the other he leaned on.

"Can I ask you something?"

Shawn shook his head, "why do you want to hang out with me?" She laughed, in spite of herself. "Because...you're not obsessed with popularity like everyone else is at our school. You're funny and have the most magical personality that honestly, no one could top. A bonus, you're so beautiful." He kissed her cheek and she reciprocated by kissing his. She couldn't hide the blush on her cheeks but at this point, she didn't care.

She sighed, sinking deep in her thoughts, "I don't know...I just wish that I didn't have to create scenarios in my head and instead...live my life without worries. Without...fear."

Camila didn't mean to say that out loud. It wasn't like she was expecting him to care that much.

His face brightened and he had an idea.

"What if...what if you let me help you?"

"Help me?"

"Yeah. Like...I'll take you to parties and we can do things...things that make you forget about what goes on at home and you won't need to worry...I'll be here."

She smiled, widely. There was no way she couldn't take him up on his offer. "Okay. Sure! Just...don't get me killed." She joked and Shawn laughed, "maybe I wasn't clear...I'm going to protect you."

"But...why?"

"Because...I like you and I think you deserve to live your life to the fullest as much as you can without worrying what people will say or what's going on at home." He blushed, now realizing that he just confirmed his feelings.

Luckily, Camila was naive and assumed it was just in a friendly manner. That was half true. "Thank you." She kissed his cheek, standing up and gesturing him to follow her.

And so their journey begins. This day, was the confirmation that they'd be by each other's sides and neither of them could complain.

I'm not used to writing stories in this omniscient POV unless it's one shots so I'm sorry if it's not that good:( but this is great practice!
