Ryan hadn't spoke to Heather for almost two full months, he smiled at her in the corridor but never spoke to her. It was almost one in the afternoon on a Sunday which meant Heather's parents had a full buffet prepared and a full house. Heather and Cameron wandered around the packed house looking for a place to sit.
"So...Ryan, is it perfect?" asked Cameron, stepping over a small child.
"I dunno, maybe me and him is wrong, I mean he is older you know," said Heather, squeezing past a pregnant woman.
"Well I get it if you're scared of him, he is leaving school in December which is pretty soon," said Cameron, exiting the living room and heading for the kitchen.
"I'm not scared," lied Heather, who had every fear that he'd pack up and leave her in seconds.
"It's not his friends you're afraid of," said Cameron, opening the back door and stepping out into the Autumn sun.
"What if it doesn't work out?" asked Heather, suddenly doubtful,"Are you gonna be there to pick up the pieces?"
"Every one of them," smiled Cameron, sitting on a garden chair.
Heather had just sat down when Graham popped his head out the door.
"HEY HEATHER,"
"...WHAT?" yelled Heather, standing back up.
"GUESS WHO I FOUND HANGING AROUND OUTSIDE," shouted Graham, with a slight smirk on his face.
"Speaking of the Devil," said Heather, glancing at Cameron who stood up when Heather did.
"Think it's Ryan?" asked Cameron, following Heather back to the house.
"Well why would any of my parent's friends just hang around outside," replied Heather, raising an eyebrow as she stepped inside.Leaning against the frame of the kitchen archway was a smirking Ryan dressed in a tight-fitted, black band t-shirt and blue skinny jeans. His brown hair had gotten longer and slightly darker and he had light brown facial hair which made him look older, in a good way.
"I was hungry," smiled Ryan, standing up straight when he seen Heather.
"I'm glad ya...you came," stuttered Heather, feeling like her tongue had swollen up, "Because you're hungry and we have food for you to eat,"
"Well, food to eat is my favourite," said Ryan as Cameron pushed by.
"Play your cards right, Ryan, and we might make you a regular," giggled Fiona, handing Ryan a plate full of everything.
"Let's go," smiled Heather, leading Ryan outside where others were scattered with random chairs found around the garden.
Outside, Graham brought his old iPod docking station and started blasting music from the kitchen window while the house emptied into the back garden as it got warmer and warmer.
"So, we haven't spoke for a while," said Ryan, sliding his plate away whilst scooting closer to Heather.
"Yeah, we should do something about that," smirked Heather as Ryan took her hand and lifted it to his lips.
"Well, we...could...spend some time...together," said Ryan, inbetween quick hand-kisses.
Heather gave a light giggle and drew her hand back after noticing that her parents were watching with great enthusiasm. It was almost eleven at night and Heather was lying on bed, studying, for the first time in forever when she got a text from Ryan.
"dont open ur window xxx"
Heather stared blankly at her phone screen before glancing at her window. She locked her phone and put it on the bedside table before standing up and heading towards her window. She was still dressed in the clothes she wore at the buffet dinner and had really old love songs playing which was rather embarrassing.
She opened her window to see Ryan standing in the back garden looking up.
"Ryan?" asked Heather, half whispering.
"I'm coming up," mumbled Ryan, pointing up towards the sky.
"No, you cannot come up," said Heather, pushing her window open further to see where Ryan was heading.
"It's too late, besides I'm already climbing," said Ryan, pulling at the metal drainpipe before climbing up it.
"Ah...God," mumbled Heather, pushing her window open as far as it would go and turning around to face her room.
She turned off the old love songs, tried to fix her already-perfectly-styled hair and straighten her outfit out.
By the time she had herself ready, Ryan had stumbled in through the window and fixing his own hair.
"Thought you went home?" asked Heather, frowning.
"I got lost," said Ryan, walking towards Heather with open arms.
"No, but seriously," smiled Heather, hugging Ryan.
"I had a really good time today," said Ryan, letting go of Heather, "You guys seemed like a real family, I don't think I've ever seen one of them up close,"
"Trust me, it hasn't always been that way," sighed Heather, leading Ryan to her bed and sitting down.
"Oh yeah?" asked Ryan, hoping to open a conversation.
"What about your parents? What are they like?" asked Heather, dodging the conversation of the rough years of her family.
"They're not really...A part of my life, honestly I can't remember them ever being in the same room for more than 20 minutes," explained Ryan, wrapping his arm around Heather's waist and pulling her in close to him, "But that's okay, I don't know where they are now, I left when I was thirteen, met Mia and lived with her for a while, I'm just gonna be alone though,"
"Ryan, you're not alone," said Heather, stroking his jawline, "Not anymore,"
"I think I love you," smirked Ryan, leaning in close to Heather and gently kissing her nose.
Ryan ran his hands up Heather's sides and gently cupped her breast, forcing Heather to pull away from him.
"I uh...Need to take it slow, okay?" asked Heather, hating herself for ruining the most intimate moment of her life so far.
"I love slow," smiled Ryan, leaning forward and kissing her again.
Heather lay back while Ryan pulled his band-tee off and lay beside her, he pulled her in close and kissed the side of her forehead while she placed her arm over his toned abdomen.
"I think I love you too," said Heather, feeling her eyes get heavy.
