Prologue

As I looked out the small plane window, I couldn't help but wonder what the year would be like. I desperately wanted it to be different. I want things to change. My thoughts were quickly interrupted by my brother, Lucas.

Besides being my only sibling, he was also my twin.  He was always with me and even though it seemed annoying at times, I appreciated his constant presence.

He asked with a clear expression of boredom on his face, "When is the plane landing?"

I looked at him coldly, angry that my train of thought was disrupted, and harshly said "I don't know, figure it out yourself."

I quickly returned to my thoughts. We were returning to school after a seemingly short summer vacation for our junior year of high school. I wasn't nervous as we had been going there since we were children. I actually enjoyed school, it was something I was good at. I wasn't good at many things.

In the midst of my deep thinking, I realized that the plane had landed. I hated airports. They were always too busy and chaotic.

I began preparing myself for the dreadfully time-consuming customs and security checks.

Later that day...

I had just finished unpacking everything. We had our own dorms at school, they weren't as big as my room at home, but still, they were large. Lucas always thought they were excessive. I disagreed. The grandeur of our school was something that I enjoyed. I liked being surrounded by pretty things. It made things better.

I heard the door open and my eyes shifted to the front of the room. It was just my brother and his best friend Jungkook.

All of us had known each other for as long as I can remember. One of the best parts of school was taking classes and spending nine months with some of my greatest friends. I was excited to see Marissa, my best friend with whom I shared many amazing memories.

As they walked in I greeted them both. I asked Jungkook, "How was your summer?"

"It was great I guess. Anyway, we came here to ask if we want to join us. We're going to the cafe in the west wing."

"Sure. That actually sounds amazing." I happily responded.

We all left the girls' dormitory and walked through a large campus on our way. As I walked I couldn't help but admire the beautiful buildings. I appreciated the attention to detail in the architecture. Each year, no matter how many times I had walked through the campus, it never stood out to me as it did today.

I guess I must have been distracted because I had fallen behind my brother and Jungkook. As I started to walk faster, I bumped into someone I didn't recognize.

"I'm so sorry," I said.

He gave me a blank stare and just walked off. He seemed strange. The encounter lingered in my mind as I caught up with Jungkook and Lucas.

We all walked into the cafe and I realized the interior was completely different. Taking note of that, I told Lucas "They finally changed it." I guess things really were going to be different this year.
