Chapter One
The first day of school was something I always looked forward to. I was nervous, unlike the years before. There were so many things that could go wrong. The change I anticipated was exciting, but it held unknown possibilities. The idea of those possibilities was scary.
My thoughts couldn't help but drift to the encounter I had a few days ago. I didn't know who he was. I have never talked to him. Yet, I seem to be utterly fascinated with him. I can't help but want to know more about him.
I quickly paused my thoughts as I looked for my blue pleated skirt and white blouse. Rummaging through my closet I found both with my blazer the same shade as the skirt. Promptly, I wore all three pieces of the uniform and rushed out of my room preparing to go to the cafeteria.
As I was entering the cafeteria, I saw Marissa, for the first time after three months, and right behind her stood Jungkook. I walked up to the two and greeted them both, first Marissa with a hug.
The three of us walked into the cafeteria and sat down in a round table near what was the center of the cafeteria. I was surprised that Lucas wasn't there, he usually arrived before us all. The drive for food Lucas carries never fails to astound me in my seventeen years of existence.
Per usual, the cafeteria is insanely loud. Students of different years scattered across, everyone either attempting to get food or instantly running towards their friend group. In the crowd, I was greeted with many familiar faces, but a few new ones as well.
Considering the fact that our school was one of prestige, only the children of socialites, businessmen, and respected figures were granted admission, it was uncommon to see new students besides the freshmen who entered.
From the corner of my eye, I could see Lena. She was one of those people that I had known for a long time but had barely spoken to, partly because I disliked her. The feeling was mutual. Neither of us acknowledged the other unless it was absolutely necessary.
Besides her sat her boyfriend, Kai. They had started dating in eighth grade and had been on and off since. The last time they broke up was eight months ago and they got back together a week later.
I didn't really understand them, it seemed their relationship was always on thin ice but they still stayed together. For the attention was my best guess. Lena seemed to like attention. So did I, but attention was only good in moderation.
Lucas shared my opinion on that topic. My thoughts suddenly returned to my brother, who was yet to appear. I tuned in on Marissa and Jungkook's conversation which seemed to be about their schedules.
Marrissa asked, "Adia, what do you have next period?"
"Not sure, I haven't checked yet. Wait- do either of you know where Lucas is?"
"Not sure. I haven't seen him all morning," Jungkook unhelpfully answered.
Adia cleared up some of our confusion when she said "Oh, he probably slept in 'cause of the party."
"What party?" Jungkook and I both said in unison, certainly more confused than before.
"He probably forgot to tell you about it. I guess it was last minute," she told us.
I had noticed that Lucas and Marissa had been talking more lately. I didn't know what to make of it, but something seemed off. I planned on further questioning but Marissa was saved by the bell.
Marissa and Jungkook went on to their respective classes as I looked through my schedule in the middle of the halls. I realized I should've done that much earlier while I walked to English, which I was now late for.
