Termites

I run out the room, with Noah right behind me. All the cops block the hallway as I try to get through.
I finally make it to the front and I see a group of men with lots of guns.

Crap.

"What do y'all want?" An officer who I've never met asked.

"We want supplies.Where's the leader of this group?"

"She's not here, but you can talk to me," I say stepping up.
I lead him to Dawn's office, and he takes a seat in the chair across from me.

Yep he's probably gonna kill me

"So let's make this quick, we will give you two guns, a bag of chips and a bottle of aspirin,"

He rolls his eyes but thinks for a minute,"We want to live here for a bit while we plan on where we're going. We'll work if that's the only way to get medical treatments and real food instead of what we've been eating,"

He stuck his hand out and we shook on the deal.

"By the way, what's your name?"

"Gareth,"

I walk down the empty hallway, carrying a full and smelly laundry basket. I started a load of darks, then went to get breakfast.
I grab a spoonful of scrambled eggs as Gareth walks in.

"You know, I've been here a week and you haven't even told me your name,"

"It's Carter, Carter Lerner,"

"Well Carter, thank you again for letting us stay here. We are actually looking for a permanent place to feel safe, but we haven't found one good enough,"

He follows me through out the line and we go sit at a small table they had in the cafeteria.

"Well, I hope y'all find a good place,"

"Thanks. Are you staying in the hospital forever?"

"I don't know, the leader is my aunt, and she's not my favorite person in the world, but she's family. It's just hard to leave family sometimes.

"Well you're welcome to come with us anytime, we've been looking at maps and we might move to the train terminal,"

"I need to go change out the laundry, if your group needs anything washed, come find me," I offered.

"I'll have to take you up on that offer," he smiled and walked away.
