The team was now boarding the jet on their way back to D.C.. Everyone was tired and ready to get some sleep. Dereck and Emily sat together near the back of the cabin while chatting, and the others all spread out in an attempt to nap before their landing.

The two stopped talking for a second when Emily's phone vibrated with a text message from Mahalia.

[Make sure ur hoe bag is ready for tomorrow night sweety cause we goin clubbing] - Mahalia

Emily smiled at her friend's message, making Dereck even more curious of what went on in the life of the Emily Prentiss. Since she'd joined the unit about a year ago, he'd assumed she had no personal life due to her never mentioning anything more than her parents. Dereck met her mother, the ambassador, and everything about her pointed to a woman from a high power family. Emily was no different: composed with an elite air to her.

He realized he had been staring when Emily's soft brown eyes looked up at him in humor as she put her phone away. Her pink lips turned up into a playful grin as she teased him with only her face expressions. Only she could embarrass him with just a look, he thought.

"If you take a picture it'll last longer", she slipped out, scrunching her nose and smiling up at her partner. Dereck could feel his lips giving in to the smile she had been putting on him a lot lately. "Sorry Princess, my storage is already full of beautiful women if you know what I mean", he shot back, sending her a wink.

Her face burned a deep red as she shook her head at his comment, not wanting to know exactly what he meant. He smiled more to himself than at her at the thought of making her blush. Dereck knew that Prentiss would never even consider him anything more than a friend. Hell, he was lucky she thought of him as that and not just a coworker.

She always seemed to be un phased by the men around her, especially the ones who threw catcalls and rude comments at how beautiful she was. Dereck shook his head to himself. Still, even the men who were polite to her about being interested never got anywhere with her because of her unbotheredness. Yes, they were close friends but why would he be any different from them.

He clipped his train of thought as he realized where his mind had went; He and Emily were coworkers. Prentiss hardly seemed like the type to date a colleague, even if there weren't rules that prevented  them from dating. He sighed and laid his head back. Dereck didn't need another broken heart or sleepless night, so he simply told himself that they were just friends and it should stay that way. Even though his friends didn't make him feel how she did.

.........

The four of them moved from the beach to the indoor club when it began to drizzle outside. Each of them were scarcely dressed to keep cool from what had been a blistering hot day. The building was barely lit and smelled heavily of liquor and warm bodies.

Genuine's 'So Anxious' played loudly through the speakers, allowing Emily to only hear her thoughts as she carried her pineapple drink in her left hand, and Zairea's Hand in her right. The club was packed, but she liked it. She felt Mahalia at her left taking her drink from her and setting it down on the bar table.

Emily looked up to see her friend widely grinning with her rather long tongue pointed out. "Uh-uh sweety, the song just started and I already see somebody starin at my sis", she said proudly. Emily looked the other way and locked eyes with a shirtless man at the far end of the bar, his red swim trunks complementing his dark brown skin.
