10. Stop Flirting With Me
Hey.
I stare at the text. It's from Jimin. I've not seen him since the library incident, and I want to keep it that way.
Well, for now.
Right now, what I need is to make a plan.
A plan that involves me not falling into the hole that I could see gaping right ahead of me.
Me not doing exactly what Jungkook warned me about.
How could I do that, though? I mean I can try but I don't think I can really avoid him. My phone pings again, and I look at it.
Jimin: Where are you? We're having dinner.
My eyes flit to the top left corner of my phone. It's half past six o'clock.
Another ping.
Jimin: They've got roasted asparagus tonight. You love that, right?
The hunger I wasn't aware of feeling suddenly rises up.
No, I can't go.
I'm not ready to face him. Not until I figure out how to deal with my stupid transparent feelings.
I can't bear to think what would happen if Hoseok knew about it. I'm still not sure whether he was just joking when he said he got his last roommate expelled. If I did something stupid like.... I don't know, fall for his boyfriend...
Jimin: You're coming, right?
And another one...
Jimin: I miss you...
My heart, my stupid, stupid heart...
The ping.
Jimin: I can't eat without you here.
I stare at the text, not sure what to think. Not sure how to feel.
Not sure about anything in this godforsaken world!
Why would he say that?
My fingers, however, seem to know exactly what to do. Without my brain's full consent, they type back,
On my way.
Ten minutes later, I'm seated at my usual spot at the dinner table. Beside him. We always sit like this. Jimin in the middle, me and Hoseok on his sides.
Jimin gives me a warm smile when I arrive, but that's it.
In case you're wondering, he can eat perfectly well without me here. Half his food is gone.
Well, at least he wasn't lying about the asparagus.
I'm unable to bring my mood up, and just sit there, so close to him, but feeling so far away.
I wish Jungkook and Yoongi wouldn't have said anything. Then, this could have been just another normal night at supper, and I wouldn't be weighed down with thought.
My evening would have probably ended up with me feeling like that if Jimin didn't do it again.
His knee pushes into mine.
Pushes, not just touching, like the previous two days.
And, unlike yesterday and the day before that, he looks at me this time.
He turns to me, meets my eyes for a second, then turns back to continue conversing with Hoseok.
One more knee push, then he draws his leg away.
