Chapter VIII

<Past>

If it wasn't for Two, I would have turned back the car and gone to the abandoned building, back to our Team Leader who was probably either dead or captured by now. But we follow rules, his directions told us to get out not go back inside. I pressed on the gas pedal, anxious to get back to  Equinox's building, whatever happened there was needed to be shared with Tempest to get the information quickly sent to the President. 

We spent the drive back in silence, I didn't know what to say and the only thing that kept me sane was the driving. It was my first mission and it had gone terribly wrong, what is Gemini going to say when he finds out that an agent on her first mission had already failed. Anxiety rose up on me, he was going to kick me out and I would be a disgrace to my family who all had high expectations of me.

I could see the wall and the soldiers were lined up like they were when we left the city. 

"How are we going to get inside? Nine was the one with the documents and ID", I bit my lip in frustration. "I have an ID, don't worry" I turned and looked at Two briefly, "How the hell do you have an ID?" I questioned.

"Nine gave me one since I'm second in charge, he always tells me to carry it just in case" a moment of silence passed "What do you think happened out there?" Five asked

"Didn't you see it for yourself? Between us three, you were the one closest to nine" I stated 

Five crossed her legs, "I wasn't really in the situation to be paying attention to details"

"You're telling me that you don't remember crap about what happened?" Five sighed "I'll tell you this," she looked out the window "they definitely weren't human". 

"No shit Sherlock", I muttered under my breath. We made it to the wall, Two opened the car door and stepped out. He went and showed the ID to the soldier, clearly the soldier seemed a bit skeptical but he ended up letting us pass. Two entered the car, "Go before he changes his mind". 

I nodded and stepped on the gas.

We entered the building and immediately headed upstairs where we saw Tempest standing outside talking to one of artificial intelligence agents (the ones who work with the AI). We waited until she finished her discussion and she looked at us. Her lightning blue eyes narrowed at the three of us, "Where is Nine" she asked in a tone of order. 

I couldn't meet her eyes and I looked away, suddenly it became colder and I couldn't think right. I heard Two speak up, "We had some complications in our mission, we have to talk to the President", Tempest walked away and opened the door for us, "Whatever it is, make it quick".

Quick my ass, this wasn't going to finish in a minute or two. 

We entered Gemini's office, it was just like I remembered it the first day I came here. It was neat and tidy, he was wearing a suit and seemed to be on a call with someone. His long golden hair was pulled up, his piercing eyes glanced at us as he held out his hand telling us to give him a moment. 

I looked at Two who gave me a reassuring smile, "Gemini may be strict but he can also go either way"

"What do you mean?" we talked in a hushed voice "It means that he can either send us to rescue Nine or he may not make us do a mission together again"

I rolled my eyes, "so much for staying positive", he chuckled, "Lets just hope we don't get the worst option".

Gemini put his augs down, his eyes swept down the line, "Where is Nine".

"We ran into a situation in our mission", my palms became sweaty and I looked at Two, "Nine, was captured by-"

"Robots" Five spitted out "They looked human but up close you could tell that they weren't. Nine went ahead of us to check the building and ended up being caught by them" Gemini closed his eyes and let out a sigh "Where did you guys go?"

"We went to an abandoned church outside of the walls" Two looked at Gemini directly. Gemini opened his eyes and let out a sigh, he put on his augs as he placed his hands on his desk. 

"Alright..." He threw a glance at Tempest and then raised his eyes at me "Take them underground". 

Tempest nodded and opened the door, "Get out" she said looking at us, Two went first and I followed until I was ordered to stop.

"Not you Eleven" I turned around and looked at Gemini "You stay", I looked back at Two and he gave me a reassuring smile, Five passed me and they headed out together. They closed the door and I was left alone with the president.

His emerald eyes held so much power in them that made me almost want to shrink. "I have a special mission for you"

I frowned, "Special mission?", he sat down on the emperor seat. "Yes, you're going a mission to find out what happened to Nine"

"But Nine is-" he cut me off "Nine is not dead, he was simply captured, we're going to find out exactly what those things want"

"No one is going with me?" he shook his head "Not anyone from your team that is, this mission is going to be completely confidential, no one can know about this unless if its Tempest or me"

"Who else will be going?" I asked curiously "Someone who is on the same level as you, possibly stronger". I nodded and gave him a slight bow, "I will head off then"

"You're not curious on who it is?" Gemini questioned, I gave him a small smile "I'm going to practice so I can be stronger than this person you talk highly about. Who that person is, it doesn't matter," Gemini nodded "Well then, train hard agent".

I gave him a smirk and then left the room with absolute confidence.
