a/n: It's a really short chapter, but I liked the way it ended so the next one will probably be longer, and please vote if you like it.
The next morning is similar to yesterday's except for some strange reason Myla can feel the excitement radiating off of me. In the car Myla interrupts our normal silence to say,
"Stop being so happy, it's weird and freaking me out."
"Yeah, yeah, you're just jealous because Petunia loves me more now."
"It was just a fluke! I bet you're too scared to pick her up again," Myla says. I smile, for one of the first times in my life, I'm in on a secret Myla doesn't know about. I can't wait to see her face when the end of the day comes.
"Sureee, but I'll take you up on that bet," I say. "Do I get any money if I win."
Myla considers this and says,
"Yeah, I'll bet you 2 weeks worth of laundry duty if she stays in your lap without hissing or scratching you. Only you and boys are stupid to make a bet that doesn't benefit them." Oh, free laundry coming my way, wow this day started off much better than even I was expecting.
"Deal," I say while spitting into my hand and holding it out.
"Gross, no way am I shaking your hand with spit on it, but it's a deal," Myla says. She hops out of the car and heads into school. This is going to be my year. Now, all I need to start my plan is to find Cody.
I have science halfway through the day, and I plan on talking to Cody during then. How I'm going to get him to drink the turquoise liquid is unknown, but it's going to happen. The first half of the day is more agonizing than usual, and when I walk into the science classroom I'm practically buzzing with nerves and excitement.
"Did you figure out what your project will be Ryan?" Mr. Rowner asks with a slight tilt in his head.
"Uh, I'm getting there, probably a stain remover or something like that," I lie with a smile on my face.
"I think you can do better than that, just make sure to have it approved with me by the end of the week. Now, get to your desk."
As usual I take my seat in the third row directly behind Cody. Cody looks perfect, he has his typical jeans on and his brown hair is side swooped which brings out his dazzling blue eyes. I start to zone out while Mr. Rowner talks, but it's halfway through the day and I realize I have jack shit of a plan to get Cody to drink the turquoise liquid. I can't let him get away. I can't let my seventeen years of wasting away go to nothing. I really want a boyfriend in highschool, and I'm not going to have one if I don't woman up. I'm racking my mind endlessly when the bell rings for our next class.
Now I know what you're thinking, isn't it a little rude to make a boy fall in love with you? But, a part of me doesn't feel as bad when I remember that he was a bystander from the events of yesterday, and maybe being with me be a good thing.
"Okay class, we don't meet tomorrow but I'll see you the day after that," Mr. Rowner shouts as students clear the classroom.
Oh no, Cody is starting to leave. Shit. Shit.
"Cody!" I yell abruptly. Several students turn around, but they eventually lose their interest and leave.
Cody slowly turns around and says what. It's now or never.
"Uhhh, want to drink this turquoise liquid," I mentally slap myself in the face. Really Ryan, that was the plan? Ugh, I thought I would do better under pressure. Obviously my mind has a different way of thinking about things.
"No thanks, I don't really want to drink a stain remover" Cody says looking at me in a confused way, and starts to turn away. Oh god, he overheard my conversation with Mr. Rowner. I suddenly think back to this morning when Myla said only boys are stupid enough to make a bet that doesn't benefit them.
"It's not a stain remover, it's an energy drink I'm making. I bet you won't, because you're too scared," I say to Cody. My voice shakes a little, but I stand firm.
Cody rolls his eyes.
"If I drink it, will you stop talking to me about the blue liquid?" Cody asks. Even annoyed Cody looks great. Yes Myla! She finally came in handy.
"It's turquoise not blue. And Yes!" I practically scream. My eyes widen and I can't believe this is going to happen.
Cody takes a big swig and swallows from the water bottle I handed to him.
"It tastes okay, if that's the chemical drink you want to hand into Mr. Rowner, I suggest that you work on it a little." Of course he thinks it's for my project, I didn't even know he was paying attention, but I guess that worked for the best.
"Oh yes, yes, yes, of course. Thank you!" I say. I can't stop smiling. Cody gives me a weird look, but then smiles back and gives me a peace sign.
"See you later Ryan."
I can't help but smile. I don't know how long the love potion will take to set into Cody's system or if I need to reapply. But, I can't bring myself to care about the logistics I typically worry about, because later today, Cody Andrews will be madly in love with me like I've always dreamed about.
