Chapter 3

Coffee

Thomas had a peaceful night of sleep that evening. He got home relatively early, had dinner, and retired into the peaceful domain in which he slept.

That was last night though. This morning, Thomas sits on his bed and watches as the sun just starts to peak over the horizon. He let out a frustrated sigh. If he can't get any more sleep, what's the point in waiting before going to work? He got dressed into his normal bright attire and grabbed a scone on his way out. (Did they have scones then??) He hailed the dawn carriage and stepped in, asking to be brought to work.

Alex sat at his desk in his office, feverishly working away. He accidentally fell asleep in his office, and barely got any sleep when he did. For the past few hours he's been writing away, page after page, trying to figure out a solution to get more votes for the establishment of the national bank. He didn't put his pen down, not as the moon reached its peak, and not as the sun started to rise. He knew he would get some funny glances being exceptionally early, but he went to the kitchens to make himself some coffee anyways. Alex sulked down the stairs and roamed around the corridors until he arrived at the kitchen. He grabbed the pot and started boiling the water. He busied himself with finding the sugar, and didn't notice the promptly dressed and wide awake Thomas enter the room. Thomas leaned on the counter and observed Alex with his usual smug look. Alex had the unmistakable tired face with dark sleepless circles under his eyes.

"You look like shit," Thomas said.

Alex whipped around so fast that his loose hair flew wildly into his face.

"Holy fuck!" he spat. "I could have had a heart attack!"

Thomas grinned and started laughing at Alex.

"You're terribly awful looking. Is that yesterdays clothes!? You look pathetic Hamilton," Thomas remarked.

"I slept in my office," Alex growls defensively and carries on making his coffee, ignoring Thomas as he stands and silently judges Alex with a smirk. Alex pours the hot water into his cup and stirs his coffee distractedly. Alex raises the cup to his mouth and takes a small sip.

Satisfied, he turns around and walks towards the exit of the kitchen. As he's about to leave, Thomas calls him.

"Hey Hamilton."

"The fuck do you want?" Alex grumbled.

"Give up on the national bank, you're never going to get the votes."

"You wish," Alex kept on walking to his office.

Alex sits in his office rubbing his temples. Maybe he should take a nap... A sharp nock at his office door startles him out of his tired daze. Burr was standing by his door, looking at Alex with a partially pitying look.

"Come in," Alex sighed.

Burr quickly slipped in and closed the door.

"Alexander, you need to go home for the day," Burr said. "You've been working the whole evening and Eliza is probably worried sick."

Alex let out a short laugh. "You know I'll just work some more at home right?"

Burr smiled softly and shook his head.

"If I can't make you take the day off, I'll at least have to make sure you head home tonight."

Alex nodded and pulled out some more papers. Burr grabbed a book off on Alex's bookshelf and began to read. Alex's ink and pen glared up at him, daring him to pick them up and write away. But as Alex looked to the side, he saw something he had completely forgotten about. Angelica's letter... Alex grabbed it and started reading.

(Insert random crap cause I'm stupid)

Alex smiles and starts to write his reply.

My dearest, Angelica,
Tomorrow and tomorrow and tomorrow
Creeps in this petty pace from day to day
I trust you'll understand the reference to another Scottish tragedy without my having to name the play
They think me Macbeth, and ambition is my folly
I'm a polymath, a pain in the ass, a massive pain
Madison is Banquo, Jefferson's Macduff
And Birnam Wood is Congress on its way to Dunsinane
And there you are, an ocean away
Do you have to live an ocean away
Thoughts of you subside
Then I get another letter
I cannot put the notion away

(Song lyrics cause I'm lazy)

Alex puts down his pen and stops writing. (Whaaaaat, he never does that xD)
"Burr, would you mind posting this to Angelica for me please?"
Burr nods and takes the letter from him.
"I'll see you this afternoon?" Burr asked as he was leaving.
"Of course."

Just want to shout out to my friend for helping me get ideas for this story cause I S U C K at being original

This is such a short chapter but it is 11pm and I want to sleep. This is an awfully written chapter and I didn't bother checking it so please correct my mistakes xD

I am contemplating making Jefferson less mean. I feel like he should be a softie who uses insults to make him look tough.

Buuuut anyways, thanks for reading my crap xD
