"You know, there are better ways we could be doing this," Varian says with a sigh.
On this sunny day, instead of getting to work on his projects like he'd rather be doing, Cassandra is making him help her wash down the outside of the caravan. For about an hour, they have been using the typical sponges and buckets full of soapy water, instead of any of his alchemical solutions.
"Nope, I already told you. No alchemy today," Cassandra says as she scrubs at a particularly difficult spot. "I don't want any mishaps while Raps and Eugene are on their date."
"I assure you, there would be no mishap," Varian says, wrinkling his nose as he wrings the brown water out of his sponge. "Asking me not to use alchemy is like asking me not to breathe."
"Is that an option too?" Cassandra asks.
Varian glares at her. "Trust me, Cass. What could still take us a couple more hours here, would only take seconds!"
"Let the boy do his thing," Lance says, poking his head out of the caravan.
"You guys could be helping, you know!" Cassandra yells at him.
"Why should we help, when that one already offered to?" Hook Foot says, pointing at Varian.
Cassandra glances down at her own bucket of dirty water, and then at the caravan that is not even halfway done. She rolls her eyes, but finally caves in. "Alright, fine... Do your stuff, 'co-lady-in-waiting'."
"As you wish, milady," Varian says with a smirk. He runs into the caravan, and returns with a handful of small, blue spheres that Cassandra recognizes from the day he helped her out with her lady-in-waiting duties. He tosses the spheres onto the caravan, and they explode into a cloud of blue smoke, completely covering the caravan. He then tosses a single yellow sphere, and in a split second and a gust of air the blue smoke is gone and the caravan is sparkling clean. Varian bows dramatically as Lance and Hook Foot clap. "Yes, thank you. No need for applause. Just doin' my part."
Cassandra chuckles. "I see you fixed the green fire problem," she remarks.
"Yeah, I couldn't keep covering my sleeves with patches," Varian jokes.
Suddenly, as the others head back into the caravan, Varian hears a strange chiming sound. "Did you hear that?" He asks.
"You mean those out of place, mystical chimes in the middle of the forest?" Cassandra replies. "What of it?"
"Aren't you curious what they are?" Varian says.
Cassandra pretends to ponder this for a second. "Nope, not really," she says, going inside.
Varian sighs. He is just about to go with her, when he hears the chimes again. Curiosity gets the better of him, and he heads off into the woods alone. He follows the sound to a small clearing, where a lone wagon much tinier than their caravan sits. A sign placed in front of it reads, "Vigor the Visionary: See-er and Know-er of All." Well, I guess there's no accounting for grammar, he thinks.
