Gwen loved Hogwarts. She couldn't even imagine disliking her time spent at the school, but the Hufflepuff girl couldn't deny that she also loved going home for the holidays. After three months she had missed her parents dearly. And to make this year even better, her grandpa had managed to get some time off of work and come to London for Christmas.
With the holidays taking place at a later time in Russia, grandpa Konstantin didn't always manage to travel when Gwen and Oliver were home from Hogwarts. Of course, they always got to see him during the summer holidays, but it made Gwen even happier to have him around for Christmas as well.
For the most part it was because she loved him, of course, but as they all sat at the kitchen table that Christmas Even, she was reminded of yet another reason. His delicious, delicious Christmas cookies. Sometimes she wondered how it was possible for her mother to be such an atrocious cook when her grandpa was so amazing at it, and according to him so was grandma Catherine who Gwen had never gotten a chance to meet.
"Okay, when my work in Africa is done, I'm moving to Russia." Aunt Marlene announced as she practically shovelled more cookies as well as a piece of cake onto her plate. The statement paired with her actions made everyone at the table laugh in amusement, expecting nothing less of the food-obsessed blonde.
"Right, and move so far away from Camille's cooking?" Henry was the one to point out the flaw in Marlene's newest plan, making her pause in wonder as she too realized that particular shortcoming.
"Well, I... But... If I..." She tried to come up with some scenario in which she could have the best of both worlds, but her words continued to fall short, making them all burst out laughing once again.
"I think you broke her." Nicholas joked, placing one more cookie on Marlene's plate as if he were trying to use it to reboot her system and get her back.
"Don't worry Marlene, I'll bake some more so you can take them with you when you go back to work." Konstantin announced, giving Marlene's hand a comforting pat.
"Aunt Marlene, do we want to know how many times you sneaked off to the kitchens while all of you were still in Hogwarts?" Oliver asked with a chuckle, knowing how much he himself did it along with Fred, George and Lee, and he wasn't nearly as passionate about food as her.
"You do not." Nadia stated honestly, laughing as she remembered the many times in just the two years she herself had been at Hogwarts.
"And why do you ask mister? I'm sure you don't need tips on rule breaking?" Marlene fixed the Gryffindor with a knowing look as she added on. "Do I want to know how many detentions you've received just this semester?"
"You do not." This time it wasn't just Nadia who replied, her voice was also joined by both Nicholas and Henry as well as even Gwen's.
"Hey! I think you all should be proud actually! I resisted my primal urge to prank in some of the most opportune times. I mean, imagine what Fred, George and I could have done during the sleepover in the Great Hall." Oliver pointed out, making his sister send him a scolding look. She was pretty sure that the troublesome trio still had quite a lot of fun observing the multitude of students sending them paranoid looks thinking they would do something.
