For most of the night Changbin sat on the cold stone floor of his cell wide awake, his body shaking and shivering violently as he peered around his cell in fear.
Changbin's cell seemed even more eerie late at night and it was even colder than usual. Even with his wings wrapped around his body and the sheet from the bed wrapped tightly around him, the cold still managed to seep through.
To distract himself, Changbin stood up and climbed on top of the bed to look out his cell window.
A few pine trees surrounded the facility and far off in the distance Changbin could see a sparkling blue lake, hinting that freedom was closer than it seemed.
Changbin stretched his wings and sighed, desperate to feel the sun on his face and the cool breeze flutter through his feathers.
With the doctors increasing their security as of late, it seemed impossible for any of them to escape the horrid prison that had become somewhat of a broken home overtime.
Changbin folded his wings again and sank down onto the bed, pulling his legs up to his chest and staring at the cell door until he eventually drifted off to sleep early in the morning.
A little bit later, Changbin was immediately woken up by the sound of his cell door unlocking and a doctor entering. But Changbin was so tired that he couldn't even resist as the doctor lifted him off the bed and dragged him down the hall towards the training room.
Upon arriving at the training room door, the doctor looked down at Changbin and shook his head sadly.
"Listen, you better say a prayer or something before you go in there because I'm not too sure you're going to make it out alive."
Changbin looked up at the doctor tiredly and sighed, his wings fluttering gently.
"At this point I don't even care. I hope he kills me." He muttered, his palms beginning to sweat from nerves.
The doctor shrugged and calmly unlocked the training door, opening it just wide enough for Changbin to enter.
"Well good luck. Hopefully we won't have to pick up another charred corpse." He mumbled to himself, shutting and locking the door after Changbin had gone in.
Changbin stood silently and surveyed the training room, backing up against the cell door so he could get a better look of the whole room.
This training room was the biggest he'd ever been in and the ground was made from some type of volcanic rock, perfectly suitable for a wielder of fire such as Jeongin.
There was a lot of room for him to fly but Changbin could tell that he might not have the speed to avoid Jeongin's fire.
Then Changbin focused his gaze on the center of the room, where Jeongin sat on the floor smiling at him devilishly.
"Have you looked around long enough yet? Or are you just scared to face me?" He teased, standing up and taking a few steps forward.
Changbin didn't reply and instead spread his wings, flying up into the air as Jeongin watched him carefully.
Jeongin's eyes then turned bright yellow and he grew until his head reached the roof of the training room.
"Are you ready to fight now Changbin hyung?!" He yelled, swiping at Changbin midair with his large hand.
Changbin gasped and just managed to fly out of the way to avoid being hit. Then Jeongin opened his mouth and flames burst out, chasing after Changbin relentlessly until they fizzled away.
Changbin panted and flapped vigorously, hovering midair to study Jeongin again.
Something just didn't add up.
When he'd first met Jeongin, the boy had never said anything about being able to grow five times his height.
Before Changbin could ponder the thought any longer, Jeongin spat more flames from his mouth and almost burned Changbin.
Changbin's eyebrows furrowed and he looked behind him as he flew, studying Jeongin and trying to figure out what his other power was.
Changbin's wings were unfortunately still tired from exercising so much the day before and he began to slow down, giving Jeongin an opening.
Jeongin grinned and aimed his flame precisely, hitting one of Changbin's wings and causing him to crash to the ground.
Changbin shrieked in pain and looked at his wing, which had been burned severely and was missing several feathers.
Changbin bit his lip to keep from crying and stared up in fear at the giant Jeongin.
"Looks like it's the end of the road for you!" He bellowed, taking a few steps towards Changbin and spitting flames at him.
Changbin closed his eyes and flinched, waiting for the searing, burning pain to reach him.
Surprisingly the pain never came and Changbin slowly opened his eyes, his mouth wide open in shock when he discovered a bright blue forcefield shielding him.
Jeongin stared in shock as well and then tilted his head curiously.
"You have more than one power too?"
Changbin shrugged and then his eyes widened as he suddenly realized what Jeongin's other power was.
Jeongin could create illusions that looked real to the unobserving eye!
Changbin smirked and slowly stood up, aiming his forcefield at the Jeongin giant and blasting it into him. The illusion disappeared and revealed the normal Jeongin standing in its place.
Jeongin's eyes grew wide and then he smiled, his flames building up and dancing across his body.
"Very clever. You're the first to remember that I use illusions, besides the doctors of course."
Changbin chuckled and clutched at his injured wing.
"I might've remembered too late though. I don't think I'll ever fly again with the injury you've given me." He muttered, staring Jeongin down in an attempt to intimidate him.
Jeongin hummed and stared at Changbin's wing for a few minutes before looking back up at Changbin.
"That all depends on time. You're just lucky that I didn't kill you. Many doctors from this facility have been sacrificed while attempting to bring me in." He explained, a bored look on his face as his flames slowly spread across his arms.
Changbin didn't get a chance to reply as a large number of doctors rushed in from both sides of the room and dragged Jeongin away.
Changbin huffed and was then dragged away by a doctor down to the medical wing of the facility.
The doctors disinfected his wing and then wrapped it up to help it heal properly before taking him back to his cell.
That night Changbin lay awake playing with his blue forcefield. He was shocked that he'd managed to survive fighting with Jeongin, but knowing that he could defeat the facility's strongest only made him more eager to go up against others in the future to test his strength and grow stronger.
