The Shadow of Perception

Lingering near.
The shadow of perception.

Was it just a hug?
Or was it something more.
A bond between two friends?
Or a lover's blinding show.

You say she's just a friend.
And I would believe you,
But for the shadow in my mind.
It cries a warning,
Are you a chameleon in disguise?

Are you a pure white flower?
Or a wing from nature's hand,
Having gleaned your colors from the neighbors generous land.

Shall I despise you?
Shall I love you?
I suppose I shall only suspect.

For I do not know you,
I only have my guess.
