The weekend had finally arrived. Veronica awoke to find Natalie snuggled up beside her, her head resting comfortably on Veronica's arm. Gently, Veronica shifted Natalie to the pillow before beginning her morning routine. After a refreshing shower and donning her comfortable clothes, she descended to prepare breakfast for both herself and Natalie.
By the time breakfast was ready, the clock read 10 a.m. Veronica went back upstairs to rouse Natalie from her slumber. To her dismay, Natalie only crawled back onto Veronica's shoulder, drifting back to sleep. Veronica sighed in exasperation.
After two unsuccessful attempts to wake Natalie, Veronica resorted to gently wiping her face with a damp cloth. Natalie blinked awake, stretching her arms and beaming up at Veronica. Veronica returned the smile and assisted Natalie in brushing her teeth. Once done, she helped Natalie to stand and walk on her own.
Their descent downstairs was a slow process, with Natalie frequently stumbling and Veronica offering her steady support. When they finally reached the breakfast table, Veronica placed Natalie in her high chair and set out small pieces of fruit for her. Natalie initially played with the fruit but quickly began eating when Veronica gave her a firm look. Veronica turned on the television and put on a cartoon—an activity both of them enjoyed.
After breakfast, they played together for a while before Veronica placed Natalie in her playroom and began tidying up the house. As she was cleaning, her cellphone rang. She hurried upstairs to check the call. Her phone was flashing with an incoming call from an unknown number. Veronica answered promptly.
"Hello," she said.
"Am I speaking with Ms. Veronica Ray?" the voice on the other end inquired.
"Yes, this is Veronica. Who am I speaking with?" she responded.
"This is Pearl, Mr. Thomson's secretary. I'm calling regarding the paperwork submitted by Alden Group of Industries," Pearl explained.
"Is there an issue with the paperwork?" Veronica asked, her concern growing.
"Well, the paperwork seems fine overall, but it appears Mr. Alden forgot to sign the last page," Pearl replied.
"I understand. Is it possible to wait until Monday? Mr. Alden is unavailable this weekend and has instructed me to keep his schedule clear for two days," Veronica requested.
"I'm sorry, Ms. Ray, but the signature is crucial. Without it, we cannot proceed with the deal. His signature confirms acceptance of the terms. If he doesn't sign, he won't be able to represent his work," Pearl stated firmly.
"This is problematic. Could you possibly ask Mr. Thomson to hold the paperwork until Monday? Mr. Alden is a well-known figure, and I'm confident Mr. Thomson would understand given the circumstances," Veronica pleaded.
"Ms. Ray, I understand your situation, but I'm afraid I cannot assist with this. Mr. Thomson has set strict rules, and the paperwork must be signed and submitted by today or the deal will be nullified," Pearl explained.
"Alright, let me see what I can do. Thank you for letting me know about this issue," Veronica replied, frustration evident in her voice.
"Please ensure the documents are submitted by 5 p.m. today. Collect the incomplete document from our office, obtain Mr. Alden's signature, and return it by the deadline," Pearl instructed.
"I'll be there by 1 p.m. to collect the document. Thank you," Veronica said before ending the call.
Veronica muttered to herself, "Looks like my plan for a relaxing weekend has gone awry. Just perfect."
She returned to the playroom where Natalie was engrossed in her dollhouse. Veronica sat beside her and gently patted her head. Natalie looked up and smiled.
"Looks like you're going to have a blast with Aunt Navi," Veronica said.
Natalie clapped her hands and giggled in response.
Veronica dialed Navi's number.
"What's up, Ver?" Navi answered groggily.
"I need you to come over and babysit Natalie," Veronica said urgently.
"Seriously?" Navi replied, clearly annoyed.
"No, I'm not joking. I have to step out because Mr. Alden forgot to sign a crucial piece of paperwork, and now I have to deal with it. I was looking forward to a lazy weekend, but instead, I'm running around because of his oversight," Veronica explained, exasperated.
"Calm down, no need to get snippy with me. I'll be there in 15 minutes," Navi said, hanging up before Veronica could respond.
Veronica sighed in relief and headed upstairs to change. After changing, she realized she needed the address of Alden Mansion but couldn't find it. She called Lina for assistance.
"Hi Lina, it's Veronica. I need your help," she said as Lina answered.
"Hey Veronica. What's up?" Lina responded.
"I need the address of Alden Mansion. I have to go there," Veronica explained.
"Seriously? Why on earth do you need that address?" Lina asked, surprised.
"I have to get Mr. Alden's signature on some paperwork. If it's not submitted today, the deal will fall through. I know he's particular about his privacy, but this is crucial," Veronica said.
"Veronica, it's not a good idea. Mr. Alden doesn't like anyone disturbing him at the mansion. He keeps his personal life very private and doesn't appreciate interruptions," Lina warned.
"Lina, I understand, but I can't let the hard work go to waste over a missed signature. Mr. Alden's hard work deserves to be preserved too," Veronica replied determinedly.
"Fine, but don't say I didn't warn you. I'll send you the address, but keep it to yourself. Never mention I gave it to you," Lina instructed.
"Thank you, Lina. I promise not to mention it," Veronica said before hanging up.
Just then, the doorbell rang. Veronica knew who it was without checking but still confirmed it.
"Open the door, you slowpoke," Navi called through the doorbell.
Veronica opened the door to find Navi standing there.
"About time," Navi said with a smirk.
"It only took me a minute to answer the door," Veronica retorted.
"Whatever. How are you getting around?" Navi asked.
"I'll take a cab," Veronica replied.
"That's why you should learn to drive," Navi teased.
"Shut up. Natalie's in her playroom. Feed her the mashed vegetables from the freezer and put her down for a nap if she's tired. Call me if you need anything," Veronica instructed.
"Got it. Take care," Navi said, closing the door behind her.
Veronica hailed a cab.
"Where to, miss?" the driver asked.
"To Thomson Enterprises, please," Veronica replied, bracing herself for the challenging day ahead.
