{THIRD PERSON POV}
IT WAS A BRAND NEW DAY. Marinette arose from her sleep, she actually had a good rest last night. There was no Akuma yesterday or the day before, so it was nice to have a break from fighting a supervillain. And Alya's words were really inspiring.
"Good morning, Marinette," Tikki said in a sing-song voice. "It's time for school! You might actually make it in time today."
"Good morning, Tikki. And let's hope so" Marinette said as she got up and prepared for the day. Then, she made her way to school, finally not needing to run for once.
-
"Adrien, are you okay? You're going to have to get up to go to school eventually. Stop staring blankly at the ceiling." Plagg scolded Adrien.
Adrien groaned. How could Plagg expect him to want to go to school if today is the day that he has to ask Lila to the prom? Lila doesn't fool me, he thought. I can see straight through her lies, while everyone else believes her. She always tries to hurt my friend, Marinette, and that is not okay.
Adrien got ready for school, got in the limo, and was on his way
-
It was between periods, everyone was on their way to lunch. Adrien was far in front of all the other students and was heading towards Lila to get the horrid deed over with.
Marinette was ready and encouraged by Alya to go up to Adrien and ask him to the prom. He's so far away, she thought. I need to get closer!
Adrien approached her and tapped Lila on the shoulder. Lila turned around with an annoyed face but it softened when she saw it was Adrien who was behind her. Lila knew what was coming, she made this deal with Gabriel.
"Yes, Adrien", Lila asked with a [fake] sweetness.
"Lila.." Adrien muttered. "Would you like to be my date for the prom?"
"Of course, Adrien! Thank you for asking me out" Lila replied.
And there stood Marinette, behind Adrien and Lila, who were facing each other. Marinette felt her heart shatter to pieces. It felt like everything around her was melting away, and all that inspiration and encouragement from Alya disappeared from Marinette's mind in an instant.
How could Adrien do this to me?
No matter how hard Marinette tried, she couldn't stop herself from letting out a sob. Adrien and Lila turned to her. Adrien realized that Marinette was standing there during Adrien's proposal, and he had the strongest expression of empathy and apologetic on his face.
Marinette couldn't handle the attention from Adrien, and Lila's evil grin. She sprinted away, her destination unknown to even herself. She ran through the hallway corridor and past lockers, then through the front doors of the school building. Marinette ran away from all those problems, crying. Then she bumped into someone.
"Oof!" Marinette winced as her body hit someone else's. She looked up to see who it was and it was her familiar friend, the boy with ombre blue hair and black painted nails who plays the guitar.
"Marinette?" Luka asked. "Are you okay? Why are you crying?"
-
Adrien slightly pushed Lila out of the way and chased Marinette, running in her direction. What was I thinking? he asked himself. I wanted to ask Marinette to be my date, not Lila!
Adrien sprinted with all of his might, putting all his strength he gained through his fencing and other activities into it. He had a strong determination to catch up to Marinette and apologize for everything. Adrien felt so stupid.
-
Something came over Marinette. A fit of certain anger and overwhelming desperation and sadness. That's why she couldn't control herself as she said,
"Luka? Will you be my prom date?"
Luka was taken aback. That certainly was random. But Luka understood the state that Marinette was in right now. Devastated. Plus, Luka had a small crush on Marinette.
"Sure, Marinette," Luka responded. Marinette was surprised he accepted but joyous. Maybe she wouldn't be alone after all.
-
Adrien watched Luka accept, and he learned what Marinette went through. By now, the entire class followed Adrien and Marinette outside and were on Adrien's tail. Adrien understood the pain of watching someone he intended on asking out, asking someone else. The same overwhelming emotion came over Adrien. But this time, it was more anger than depression.
Jealousy.
He felt as if he weren't controlling his own body as he approached Luka, pulled him away from Marinette, and watched as Luka fell to the floor
Adrien punched Luka.
Marinette's shriek filled the air, followed by more of her sobs. Plagg looked up at Adrien in disbelief from his pocket. It was the first time Adrien saw Plagg disappointed. Everyone stared down at Luka, passed out on the floor with a bruise on his cheek.
"Dude!?" Nino yelled.
"Adri-kins?" Chloe questioned.
Lila was simply smirking at the chaos. She knew that Adrien being forced to ask her to the prom would cause broken hearts, but she didn't think it would be this much. She loves the mess she made, and she wasn't going to be the one to clean it up.
Marinette ran home. She couldn't handle this life. She was only 14.
Too much responsibility can make someone go mad.
