"So

"So..." Samuel glances around him, wrinkling his nose. "I know it isn't a national vacation anywhere, but where are all the oldies?"

I simply shrugged, placing some tomatoes in the kart he was carrying.

"Aren't you curious?"

"Well, sure, but it's probably because of those awful jellyfishes," I offered. "What is a vacation without being able to swim?"

He blew out his cheeks, strolling through the isle as I gathered all the stuff we needed for lasagna and breakfast tomorrow.

We'd tried to swim earlier, being completely ready to dive into the blue ocean and measure who was faster, but enormous, glassy jellyfishes that were swarming around the beach kept us from going in. So, we decided to get on with Sam's stupid priority-list.

"There are some," I suddenly remarked, nodding at a few tourists circling around a pole, where flyers were stuck to the concrete. Missing cats and job-offers, I noted.

Sam raised his eyebrows and, with his large build, checked out what they were looking at. A greying lady turned to us, being visibly American.

"Hello there." She winked at my man. "Curious about the incidents, as well?"

"Incidents?" he echoed, reading a flyer.

I rolled my eyes at him and got eggs for the pancakes we were going to eat tomorrow. Ten? Or six? Hmm... We were going to stay for a week, but I didn't really eat eggs. He did, though, as he ate a lot in general.

Alright, ten then.

"Those strange burglaries. They happen all around the island, nowadays. That seems to scare away lot of tourists, but Mark and I aren't superstitious like that."

"He steals nothing?" Sam mumbled at the paper, as the lady's eyebrow twitched at him ignoring her.

"No, nothing," another man chimed in, "He only leaves threatening notes, saying he'll kill if the tourists don't leave soon. Rumor has it he continues this until they are gone. It's crazy."

"Have you gotten any, yet?" the woman asked him, as he shook his head.

"No, but my neighbors got a few before they left yesterday. They showed me. It's really creeping me out, honestly. We were planning on staying until Wednesday, but maybe we'll leave earlier."

Sam glanced at me, as I showed him a deadpan expression. I knew exactly what was about to come. And here I was hoping on a normal holiday with him, free from his tiring profession.

"Sam," he started, as I held up my hand.

"Uh. Let's finish groceries. I'm getting hungry."

"But this is interesting," he muttered, getting back to me and slipping his hand behind my back. "Don't you think?"
