..Darnell. Mark was convinced the kid had never taken a thing seriously in his entire life. Even when the sun had been trying to boil him alive a year past, he seemed to be ready with a joke.

I was extremely happy to see this, because nothing can beat good humor. Only ***** can. Curse *****. Curse it. This also gives a hint of their past; something about Sun flares. Makes me wonder how many years it has been going on for.
I'm really mad at Dashner for this description. He made me want to keep reading, but then ...

A girl walked in after him, tall and thin with long red hair, just a little younger than Mark.

I found out that Misty's almost nineteen. It was hard trying to imagine what "thin" was, though. Sickly thin or what we call "thin" today? Dunno..

He was the shortest nineteen-year-old Mark had ever seen, but as thick as an oak tree- all muscle and veins. Which for some reason made others think they could pick on him, because they knew he could beat the crap out of them.

It's nice to know that Mark, Trina, Darnell, Misty, and the Toad are all around the same age. If the Sun flares hadn't come around, then they wouldn't of had ever met. Then again, they wouldn't of had ever had the chance of catching a virus that first tortures then kills the victim in a matter of an hour..
