"Cheers!" Glasses clanked together as the chatter of the full room merged with the liquor. He downed the glass of soju, dark brown hair moving with his movements and his cheeks flushed. "Toast to our new Manager, Jeon Jungkook!" A guy blurted out, his blond hair in his eyes as he threw his head back happily, tipping his glass.
The group of friends cheered as they drank the liquid, feeling the burn in their throat. They talked loudly, patting the brunette's back. He gave them a sloppy smile, slipping into a relaxed posture as he looked around. They all sat in a bar, celebrating his promotion. Jungkook felt himself fall back into his mind, a place ruled by another brunette. He closed his eyes, a face appearing in front of him, smiling warmly as if the person would stay even if he opened his eyes.
The young brunette had left his memories in Jungkook's mind, his taste on his lips, his scent everywhere and his touch still lingering over the brunette's skin. Where was he now? What was he doing? Was he okay? Did he miss Jungkook like Jungkook missed him? Feeling his heartache again, Jungkook shook these thoughts out of his head.
He slowly opened his eyes, the smiling face dissolving into small drops of salty water that leaked down his face as he quickly wiped it off. His eyes were glassy, holding back the moisture from slipping out once again. Somehow, it still hurt after 2 years. It still felt like it had been just yesterday that he had gotten on the train and waved to Taehyung.
What had gone wrong? Where had he lacked? Was he not enough? But he had no one to ask these questions to, no one to answer all the doubt that crept up his spine every night that he lay on his empty bed in that same apartment they had once filled with their essence. That same apartment that had once given him a sense of comfort, now mocked him.
The empty rooms, dull walls, cold bed and the scent of room freshener suffocated him, making him long for just a speck of warmth. Taehyung's clothes were now stuffed in the storeroom, his accessories and shoes stored there. He couldn't bear to see them and smell the faint scent of the younger's cologne on them.
He shook himself of these thoughts, bringing himself to enjoy the gathering. They all parted ways after a while, Jungkook getting a cab and waving goodbye to his colleagues. He got off when he reached his apartment, paying the driver and walking into the house.
The apartment was silent, dark and cold. He took off his shoes, walking in and getting ready for bed. The bed was cold, sheets fresh as always and the light dim. He walked up to the bed, sitting down on the soft mattress.
It was moments like these that made Jungkook miss Taehyung even more. The younger had left a very deep mark on Jungkook. The brunette pressed his palm to his face, sighing softly. The little bit of alcohol in his body made him tipsy, his thought slightly clouded. He got up, opening the closet and pulling out a white T-shirt.
He dragged himself to the bed, lying down and keeping the cloth close to him. The T-shirt belonged to Taehyung, his faint scent still lingering on the fabric. It was enough, just enough for Jungkook to fall asleep. He pulled the covers over himself, letting out a few tears as he lightly laughed at himself. The calming scent of Taehyung soon lulled him to sleep as Jungkook's tears dampened it.
