Link missed his companion, the one known as Navi. She spent every moment with him during his previous adventure. She was one of the greatest friends he could ever ask for. When his adventure came to an end, and he returned to his childhood, Navi flew away. This baffled Link, for he didn't understand why she would just leave with no words. Was she upset over anything? Was there something she was hiding from him? There was more to fairies than he thought, but this one was his friend.

Link went back to his home in the forest, and began asking every Kokiri about why Navi would suddenly just take off without any explanation. None of them knew why, for they never experienced this. Mido believed it had something to do with Link being responsible for the Great Deku Tree's death. Link knew this couldn't be the case, but really wished his fatherlike figure were here more than ever to explain this. He had a feeling the Deku Tree would have had the answers. He remembers the Deku Sprout in the seven year future having the same memories as his father, but who knows how long it will take until he appears? He didn't want to wait for many years to pass to know the answers, he wanted to see Navi now.

Saria told Link that Navi loved him dearly, but probably had personal unfinished business to attend to. Things that she didn't want to bring up due to how stopping Ganondorf was the main priority at the time. Link never really thought about what Navi's life was like before being instructed by the Deku Tree to aid him. Navi did always seem anxious at times. Perhaps it had something to do with family, or a friend. Maybe she knew Link was too young to understand and just left, promising to one day return. Fado was the only Kokiri Link didn't ask yet, but instead she told him that most fairies live in the forest, and that maybe he should go searching for her there. Link was then warned about what happens to those that get lost in the forest, and because he had no fairy, he'd be at a greater risk. Link lived in the forest for his whole life, he and Saria used to explore it together on multiple occasions. He practically knew the forest as if it were his backyard.

The next morning, Link would prepare himself to find her. He felt that on foot, it would take a while, but if he had Epona, it would be a lot easier. He made multiple visits to Lon Lon Ranch, and because of this, Epona started warming up to him. He and Malon were a lot closer too, and he always felt comfortable around her. Her singing would help lull away the anxiety he gained from his past adventure. He loved her smile, her hair, and the way she dressed. He appreciated her love for animals, and how the two of them would make each other laugh. He knew she would grow up to be a beautiful woman, and he hoped that one day he would be the one asking her to marry him. As much as he wanted to spend the day with her, he had to borrow Epona for his quest. She knew he was a legendary hero, for she was one of the first he showed his Triforce of Courage to, after the Royal Family. She considered him to be the bravest knight in Hyrule, and even believed Epona was safer with him than at the ranch. He thanked Malon, and immediately rode to Hyrule Castle.

While it was fun the first time, Link no longer had to sneak by the guards, now that he gained the trust from the Royal Family. He met up with Zelda who retaught Link the Song of Time. After telling him that the Goddess of Time was there to aid him, he rode off back into the forest, and began his search deep into the woods.
