The church had an interesting group of people. There were those who looked like normal civilians but something in their eyes was saying otherwise.
The others however looked horrifying. Their faces were hidden under skull-shaped masks and by their sides were swords. The masks completely covered their face so there was no way anyone would be able to see under. They wore black cloaks keeping their bodies hidden as well.
I looked back around the room. There were seven thrones in total and at one of the lower thrones, one person sat. He was different from the rest. There was no mask covering his face and instead of wearing a black cloak, he had a red one. Something about him felt dangerous.
I was now wondering if I really had made the right choice.
When I had first entered this place I hadn't expected there to be so many people.
Maybe the village wasn't so bad after all.
There were only a few issues with that place. To begin, the village's rules were much more strict and people were very keen on being obedient. Elders had higher authority over everyone and they choose where you'd go in your life. Those who didn't comply or agree would be killed, but there were rumors of those who got away.
Some of the rumors said that people had come to seek shelter here.
I let out a small sigh, the truth was I didn't want to be here. Maybe this really was a shelter for those who disobeyed but that wasn't the only reason people stayed away from here.
The place had been declared haunted all over the village. According to some travellers they had come across the place and had witnessed some horrible things. They had seen spirits and demons.
That was at least everything they would tell me, but by the looks on their face, it said there was more.
I wasn't sure how much of a shelter this place really was, but right now it was my only option.
At first, when I had left the village I had planned to go to another one nearby but I was not so lucky. The villagers had cornered me and I was forced to move toward the forest. I could have tried harder to make it to another village but the moment I stepped past the tree line something felt different. It was as if my feet were no longer my own. I was being guided right to this place and there was nothing I could do to stop it.
Something had drawn me to this place and was stopping me from leaving those doors.
It was almost like something was calling out to me.
But the big problem was, what would I do now? I was now in a supposedly haunted place with a bunch of random scary-looking people and I was already starting to get hungry...
Maybe I should've thought this through a bit more.
I watched as the people moved around. It seems those normal-looking people could come and go freely so maybe I could try and blend in.
There was no way I could just go up and talk to someone I still didn't know exactly where I was or what kind of people were there.
But even if I did walk around where would I go? There were too many questions but I wanted to know what this place really was.
There was no way I could leave now if the villagers saw me they'd kill me.
I guess my only option would be to stay here for a few days and try to find something to cover my face with. If I could get one of those hoods I might be able to sneak past the villagers.
I paid attention to the room once again. To the left of me, a little further away was a large open door. There would be no point in trying to open any of the other doors around the room they looked like they would make way too much noise. Not to mention they were huge. I didn't think I had the strength to even try opening one.
Leaving the pillar I moved closer to the wall and then headed toward the next pillar.
I'm certain people would see me eventually but until I knew my surroundings better I'd avoid them as much as I could.
I made it to the last pillar and peeking around I noticed the door was clear. Taking in a breath I began to make my way over nervously. My heart had begun pounding in my chest. At any moment someone could walk right through that door.
If I wasn't supposed to be here I'd be in a lot of trouble.
My walking sped up and my eyes darted around the room. It seemed everyone was preoccupied with stuff to even notice me.
As I made it through the doors my heart began to slow down a bit. Now I was in a hallway. The hallway split almost like a fork. Footsteps once again caught my attention and I looked for anywhere to hide.
Beside me to my left was another one of those strange pits but by it was a ledge. I hurried down to the ledge and curling up I pressed against the wall hoping no one would look down.
My strained breathing was the only thing I could hear as the footsteps once again passed by me.
This would be more difficult than I had thought.
