Mikey wished he could have said that he's noticed the absence of Otto Wood but he realised the moment Mr Armstrong explained why there was a new student scanning the room next to him. The exchange student program. She was tall, but not a awkward lanky like Mikey and had a pale complexion that could only be explained by a European lifestyle or many years inside a basement.
"This is Sarah Orz-...uh...well..."
"Orzechowski," The girl piped up, her voice much higher in pitch than Mikey had expected.
"Yes, uh, that," Mr Amstrong shrugged in defeat, deciding not to attempt at the name, "She's here all the way from Poland, I hope you will all make her feel welcome."
The teacher's eyes drifted across the room for a good ten seconds before landing on Mikey Way, causing him to cringe.
"I'll have you sit next to Michael," The maths teacher grinned, "You'll look after her, won't you Mikey?"
Most eyes in the room flicked to him, causing Mikey to realise that both his peers and teacher expected more than his signature 'deer in headlights' stare in response.
"Uh... yes, sir," Mikey gave his own rendition of the classic white person smile.
Sarah found her seat next to Mikey's and smiled awkwardly. She ran her eyes over his ling sleeve clad arms and tilted her head in shock.
"It is so hot!" She exclaiming in a unfamiliar, but what Mikey assumed (unless he'd been seriously duped) was a Polish accent, she then continued to mutter under her breath, "Silly Americans."
Mikey let himself laugh at her statement, she giggled back at him. While it was indeed spring there seemed to still be a winter nip in the air, causing many students to either wear light jackets or opt for thin long sleeved tees. Though Sarah's appearal was drastically different, shorts accompanied with a tee that was desperately fighting to be a tank top.
"It gets hotter," He quipped back, his lips quirking as her eyes widened.
"Hotter!" She gasped, "No no."
Mikey shook his head and chuckled at her enthusiasm, "Count yourself lucky you didn't get Australia."
Mikey waited for her response but as he looked at her face he realised Sarah knew less English than he'd previously expected.
The dark haired teen looked down, face red from embarrassment, "S-sorry, I do not understand."
"It's okay," Mikey stratched the bacl of his neck, feeling as though the conversation and experienced death by drowning in the awkwardness he always seemed to bring forth.
Him and Sarah didn't speak for the remainder of the lesson. But when the bell did ring for lunch Sarah got him to navigate her to her mandatory English studies.
Before she slipped inside she placed her hands on his arm saying, "We speak more when I learn more," with a large smile.
Mikey was glad that the language barrier didn't seem to be an issue to the girl but hoped she wasn't getting the wrong idea from him.
"Mikey Way!"
It was an all too familiar voice that caused him to freeze with either fear or excitement, he couldn't tell the difference.
"Was that the exchange student?"
Mikey turned wide eyed to face Pete Wentz himself. He was fueled by adrenaline as he struggled to kickstart enough braincells to reply.
"Uh...huh."
Great start, Mikey internally rolled his eyes, keep going.
"She's, uh, from Poland.
Pete's eyes widened as he let out a soft whistle from under his breath, "Girls are tall in Poland."
Pete's words body slammed on Mikey's heart.
"Oh, yeah I-I guess."
Of course his own knobby awkward knees were nothing in comparison to literally any woman in the world when presented to Pete Wentz, a straight guy.
"But, hey, Mikes I was wonderi-"
"Pete!" Brendon Urie appeared, dressed in clothes that seemed two centuries too late, "I need you to help me. I have lyrics. And I..."
The raven haired theatre fanatic gave the classic 'Straight dude nod' before returning his attention to Pete.
"You can't tell him. Ryan, I mean," Brendon begged, "He'd kill me. I'd be dead if he knew I'm working on my own stuff."
"Yeah, Bren, of course," Pete returned his gaze to Mikey, "I-"
"What's that?" Brendon pointed to the ground behind the lanky teen.
A large leather bound book lay outside the English studies classroom door Sarah had previously slipped inside. Mikey picked the book up, finding far heavier than the comic books he had at home. Foreign words were etched on the cover, Mikey flicked open the book to discover the same language on the inside bar two word. Sarah Orzechowski.
As he squinted through his glasses the letters almost seemed to melt into each other before pulling a mitosis and separating into three terrifying words.
Michael.
James.
Way.
Mikey slammed the book shut in horror.
Pete and Brendon looked at him in expectance and Mikey pulled himself together to mumble out, "It's the exchange student's."
Brendon yanked it from Mikey's hands and promptly announced, "Mr Madden told me they're in ... other Mr Madden's class. I have that next. I'll give it to them. Now Pete-"
"She doesn't know much English," Mikey warned, Brendon looked irritated for a moment but he quickly shook it off and nodded.
He continued to tug fervently on Pete's hand, fixed on taking the shorter male back with him, wherever he was going.
"I'll uh, talk to you later, Mikey Way," Pete gave him a small wave before allowing himself to be swept away by Brendon.
Mikey was glad that Brendon took that book. That was fucking weird.
