Caspian scuffed after Sabrina and Rem, who were chatting casually about any of these idiotic TV shows. Caspian still did not get these flickering boxes, although he already knew the human world well. But the series and films were mostly too hectic and loud for him.

However, he focused entirely on the mission. He paid attention to unusual vibrations and smells in the air, unfortunately, Rem's stench and dark aura distracted him quite a bit. The guy was like a dump in a flower field. Ugly and smelly.

Rem led her around a corner and stopped abruptly, causing Caspian to run into him. "Are you crazy?" He snapped and wanted to push past him. He was pissed off at how little they took the matter seriously.

However, that should change immediately. Sabrina took a sharp breath. "Is that blood?"

Caspian froze and looked at his feet. Indeed. It was not much, but it did alert Caspian. He crouched and reached out his hand. "The blood has dried, but is still relatively fresh."

His heart was beating faster. All his fears ran through his head again and seemed to scream at him. "Goodness," breathed Sabrina, "do you really think that's his blood?" Rem cleared his throat. "We can't be sure," he said, looking down at Caspian. "Maybe it means nothing." They exchanged a look that Sabrina of course did not miss.

"What's going on? You look at each other like you know more than I do." She narrowed her eyes and flushed with anger. "Is this a joke? Are you kidding me or something? Seriously, if something happened to Louis, then-" Caspian got up and pushed her aside. "I have to see if something was here. I can't if your stench is in the air." Rem puffed up. "I don't feel anything." "Great, I'm glad you didn't notice any of your disgusting relatives, but I don't trust you a bit."

Caspian gritted his teeth and clenched his fists. He should have been more careful. The blood did not indicate a fight. It must have happened quickly. It was not that much. Louis was kidnapped.

He was not dead.

Yet.

He had to act quickly and regulate that, and if possible without them. They would only hinder Caspian. But the demon snorted. "But you should, at least for now. I am a great help, I will help you find Louis." Before Caspian could answer, Sabrina intervened again. "You two are completely crazy. I have no idea what you're talking about. I'm going to call the police right now." She whirled around and hurried away, but Caspian grabbed her arm.

"Stop. You can't do that." "Why not? We-" "They only look for him after 48 hours anyway and the blood here doesn't prove anything," Caspian tried to direct from the real reason. That he had no ID and that the police would make everything terribly complicated. Rem seemed to agree with him, for once.

"We have to search for him alone first. We know Louis much better than the police officers, who will probably ask us for hours before they go off themselves." Sabrina looked uncertain and then let out a curse in frustration. "Fine. Wonderful. Then what do we do? There is BLOOD damnit. Oh god, I think I'm going to puke..."

Caspian closed his eyes briefly and gathered himself. "Sabrina, you have to stay in Louis's apartment if he comes back or the kidnapper calls. We'll try to find out more. Okay?" She tugged her frizzy hair and seemed like she was going to say no, but then sighed. "Okay. Okay, I'll do it. But if we don't have anything tomorrow morning, I'll call the police, understand?" "Yes, I got it."

She hurried back to Louis' apartment and Rem rubbed his forehead. "Shit. I honestly didn't expect anything to happen," he muttered, looking ashamedly to the side. "It was a huge mistake to drag Sabrina in there!" Caspian hissed. He wanted to hit him. Hard. Unfortunately, Rem was right. They had to work together now.

The cold wind blew through the narrow alley and they both remained silent for a second. It was these moments, when Caspian wished he had become a Virtues, the angels, who fulfill desires and accomplish miracles. Because a miracle was needed to bring Louis back. He was almost sure about that.

When he looked up and saw Rem's gloomy face, Caspian knew he was thinking something similar.

-

The voice sounded familiar to Louis, but he just could not figure out, whence. "What monster?" Louis hoped his voice sounded as fearless and innocent as he definitely did not feel. "Don't play stupid," growled the voice behind him. He did not dare turn his head. Who knows, maybe he was carrying a weapon. A worse one than the one he had used to knock Louis down.

Louis did not answer. Quiet steps told him that his kidnapper was walking up and down. "I've been watching you all the time. But he hasn't left the house, only you. I thought for a while that you actually got rid of him and I  wanted to give up knowing more, but then the two of you just came out recently."

Louis could feel the blood drain from his face. He smiled. "You can wait a long time for Caspian to come over," he said, "he's only with me because of an emergency. He won't be looking for me."

That was the truth. This whole procedure would only keep Caspian from doing his mission, and Caspian would probably not allow that. How many times had he tried to run away to fighting alone? He had just tried it last night. Surely, he had just moved on.

It hurt Louis a little bit, but he understood. He had imposed himself on Caspian. With a sigh, he hung his head. Stupid, Louis, very stupid of you.

He always did that. As soon as he liked someone, he just became pushy. It was pitiful.

His kidnapper was silent. Maybe he would let him go if he realized Caspian was not coming? A little spark of hope came up in Louis. After all, he had not seen the criminal yet. And getting rid of a body was certainly complicated. Louis got sick and he swallowed. As much as he tried to stay optimistic, the situation was fucking shitty.

"Good to know that his name is Caspian. Then at least I know the name of the devil's birth that will bring me fame." Louis felt a hand on his shoulder. "If he doesn't come like this, maybe I have to provoke him a little more?"
