Louis froze and stared at Rem. He had known his colleague for 3 years and had never noticed that he wanted to harm someone. Never.
Caspian had to be wrong. He held on to his arm, which was swinging again to hit Rem, who was still lying on the floor. "Let me go, Louis. I'm serious. They're damn dangerous," growled Caspian, seeming to have forgotten all his pain and injuries. "Calm down Caspian. Please. Rem would never-" "Rem?!" Caspian started to laugh coldly and pulled himself free from Louis grip. "This guy isn't called Rem. His name is Thomas and he was a soccer player in 1960." "I beg your pardon?" Louis blinked in confusion.
Rem wiped the blood from the corner of his mouth and looked up. His brown eyes were wide open and he raised his hands to protect himself. "Wait, please, I can explain," he begged and tried to get up slowly, but Caspian gave him another chin hook. Then he gasped because he probably remembered that his ankles were broken a few days ago. "Stop it!" Furious, Louis pushed Caspian away from Rem and glared at him. "Let him speak."
"I'm not arguing with demons!" "As long as you live here-" "Oh, I never asked you to live here." "Don't come with your I-am-an-asshole-fuss. Shut up." Caspian closed his mouth and narrowed his eyes.
Rem got up and coughed. "Shit. You really have a punch behind the blows." He wiped his face again and looked at Louis imploringly. "Please don't freak out, okay? But your friend is not wrong."
Louis rolled his eyes. "Fine, you're a demon. Whatever. Now tell me the rest." Caspian growled. "As soon as you move a millimetre, I'll tear your liver out and feed it to your disgusting siblings." Rem looked back and forth between them. "So, you're playing good cop, bad cop?" "I'll play with your vocal cords right away if you don't pull yourself together." Caspian smiled.
Rem swallowed. "All right, all right. Listen. I'm a Guede, but I just want to live my life okay? I don't want to harm anyone." "You are a demon, idiot. Lying is a character trait for you."
-
Rem rubbed his arm and distanced himself from Caspian. It confused him. Not that Caspian objected to demons being afraid of him, but Guede were insidious, cruel demons. They take over the bodies of innocent people and lead them to inhumane things. It was particularly bad when they were in the bodies of politicians.
However, this one looked as if it would like to sink into the ground. Not particularly threatening. "I was called to earth in 1960. Or rather summoned. The footballer, Thomas, you are talking about, had a sister who died. He ... wanted to bring her back to life with the help of a demon."
The Guede avoided his rigid, cold look and looked at Louis. Caspian had an urge to push Louis behind him. Who knew what that bastard had already whispered to him? God, he would rip this Guede's head off if-
"So you just killed this man like that?" Louis stepped forward and raised his chin. The creature shook its head. "No, it doesn't work that way. I was summoned, but as it always is, he made a mistake. I couldn't occupy a dead body, I have to occupy the soul. And that was already ... gone. Therefore, I had to take the next best soul available to me. His." "So, you just killed him like that. As I said," said Louis.
The creature shook his head again, more vigorously. "I had no choice! I was summoned and I had to do my job." Caspian laughed. "You call that a job?" The Guede's expression changed slowly and his jaw muscle twitched. "So now you stand before me, fallen Saint, and reproach me? How many did you kill? How many? You don't even know anymore, do you? That's what your job is as well."
Louis rubbed his forehead and sighed. "Stop it. Rem, tell us the rest. How the hell did you get here? And why ... are you working?" Caspian snorted and crossed his arms. Louis's self-righteous manner drove him insane. The demon fiddled with his sleeve. "I want to live here in peace. In the human world. I don't want to do anything to anyone. I just want to ... live."
