Yasmin kept tossing and turning in bed the night prior to the big reveal.I could hear the labored shuffling of her body against her bedsheets and the occasional sighs and coughs, since the boys' room adjoined the girls' room. My parents were rich enough to afford bread but poor enough to afford butter(I guess man can live on bread alone),so we did just fine. She needed to hatch a plan that would eventualize to her letting the cat out of the bag. She knew she was many things and a wuss wasn't one of them. She recalled that one time she told our dad she was going to bring her boyfriend home. My dad was appalled, I thought I could see foam forming at the corners of his mouth. she was joking she said afterwards, but was she really? Schrödinger douchebag, remember?
I had my own thoughts too, not that I cared much for Yasmin(my favorite sister was Milgo) But despite the sibling rivalry ,we had our moments. I had some sort of a connection, okay a mini-connection, with Yasmin. Lately ,I could sense something was off with her. Am big on energy and vibes. For one,she had dialed down her chirpy nature a tone.
Secondly,(and this one gave her away)she wasn't smirky, aggressive or a smarty-pants with me,or anyone in the family for that matter. She willingly gave away the TV remote to me.This had been the subject of very many fights before, which she mostly won anyway. You wouldn't want a verbal contest with Yasmin, that girl was born with a tongue as sharp as her wit. We weren't cut from the same cloth,Yasmin and me,or anyone in the family again. This apple fell far from the tree, that I can tell you for sure.
Finally, the dead giveaway, was how nice she had started being to me. She even gave me the password to her internet hotspot when the house WI-FI ran out. Who was this girl and what she done to Yasmin? Furthermore she accepted my Facebook friend request which by the way I had sent her a year ago. She also clicked several like buttons on some of my Instagram posts.
If i was a suspicious person,I'd jump to the conclusion that she was buttering me up for something bad,and I mean Yasmin-bad,she was about to do,or putting something in the bank for a later bad thing she'll do. How she'll prove me right.
Just when sleep was catching up with my racing thoughts,i heard a knock on the door. When I asked who,not that I didn't know, she walked right in and headed straight to sit on the edge of my bed.
"We need to talk,I mean I need some advice", she started, her voice a tad shaky." Am going to tell mom and dad and your brothers(like they weren't hers) something tommorrow and I need you to support me",she continued. With the recent sudden change of character in her,i wasn't surprised she came to me for advice. This, normally would be an ego-boost but the worry and concern in her voice robbed me of that opportunity.
"What will you tell them?" I asked, rubbing my eyes just so she could see how I'd gone out of my way to hear her out.
"You'll find out tommorrow", and with that she made her way back to her room.
