.RUTH.

~Dictum~

"Leona.... Leona...." I call, watching my acquaintance with bored eyes. "Leona! Can you please stop pacing about? You're giving me a headache."

"We have to get out of here Ruth!" She answers exasperated.

"Yeah sure, but pacing isn't really helping." I say walking towards her. Putting my hand on her tall shoulders I speak lowly. "You need to calm down. We can't come up with a plan when we're not emotionally stable."

"She's right Leona. We should try to relax and think rationally." Aden supports from the ground where he's seated.

She sighs and walks back to her spot by the barricade. "What do you suggest then?"

I smile widely and sit down beside Aden on the floor. "Settle down kids. I'm gonna tell you a story."

Leona lifts one of her perfectly arched brows, but doesn't say anything.

"Once upon a time, in the land of Acies, there lived two mischievous little girls. Those who knew them wondered why they weren't born as twins, because the two looked so alike, they fooled everyone. Their names were Ruth and Rachel...."

""""

It was the Elekewa festival. It was a happy time as the people danced and ate.

The little girls just ten and eleven; Rachel and I, sat around the fire, with the other children and listened to an elder tell scary jokes about the Mayu; witches. Rachel looked intrigued. She listened carefully to the words of the elder as the old woman told them how the Mayu took children and used them for sacrifice. The longer she listened the more fascinated she was. "Imagine if we catch them." Little Rachel whispered to me.

"What?" I asked, my brows knitting together.

"We could catch the Mayu!" Rachel said with a smile on her face. "If we catch them, they can't hurt anyone!"

"Are you dumb? There's no way I'm doing that! The M—Mayu could use us for sacrifice."

"Well I'm going. If you wanna be a sissy then fine! Stay!" Rachel said standing up. "I'm going to stop the witches from getting children."

Ruth looked frantically for her mother, but she saw she had already set up her fortune telling table and had many customers lined up. "This girl will kill me one day" I said to myself

Sighing, I ran after my younger sibling. "Wait Ray, I'm coming with you!"

"That's the spirit!" she said punching her hands in the air.

"I'm only here to make sure you don't die." I said rolling my eyes.

Ignoring me, Rachel ran toward the mauta, grabbed the fence and started climbing. "The elder said their coven is just beyond these gates!"

"Just so you know, I'm convinced you're mad." I said and climbed after her.

.....

On the other side of the fence, we could see just how terrifying the place was. It was foggy and poorly lit, the grass was overgrown, and the cave which was most likely the entrance to the coven looked dark and lonely.

It was quiet; eerily quiet.

"Rachel..." I whispered and gripped my sister's hand in mine. "We should go. We really need to go."

"No! Come on Jinx, don't be a sissy!"

Rachel walked to the entrance of the cave and peered in. I followed quietly behind her and peered as well.
