.RUTH.
~Dictum~
"Are you sure you're not blowing this a little out of proportion?" Leona says from her place by the bars.
"What are the chances that both of you would've met?" Aden says standing up. "What are the chances that she would've been out the same time you were at the glade?"
Leona raises one eyebrow. "I'm pretty sure there was a fat chance. You guys ever heard of coincidence."
"And the fact about our parents? How are they the only humans that know about Eternals?" I tell Leona. "See, I'm sure there's a reasonable expl—"
We all hear a loud crash. Aden and I join Leona at the burglary, to look for the source of the sound.
"Go in you bluggard." We hear the jailer say as he comes into view. A man is pushed right in front of our cell and he falls to the ground. I gasp and reach out through the bars to help him up.
"Thank you." He says as I help him up. The jailer gives me a dirty look and opens our cell. He pushes the man inside and turns to Aden and I. "Both of you come with me."
He leads us both to the cell opposite the other one and locks the door. "What's going on?" Leona says holding the bars. The jailer ignores her and walks towards the entrance. "Answer me you fool! What funny business are you planning now?!" She says increasing her volume.
"Shut up!" He shouts back at her and walks away.
"Idiotic Buffoon!" Leona shouts one more.
Aden and I look at each other and I sigh deeply. I wonder if my pets are okay.
....
"Leona." I call out and she stops her pacing and turns to me. "You're pacing again."
"We've been here for four days jinx. Four days! I can't handle it anymore! We didn't do anything wrong! Why am I locked up?!" She says as she continues her pacing.
I watch the face of the man sharing Leona's cell and a frown forms on my face as I register his look of surprise. "Our new prison mate hasn't spoken in the two days. He has been locked up with us." I whisper to Aden beside me.
"I'm pretty sure that's fairly normal, Ruth."
I close my eyes and take a deep breath. Before Ichange my mind I speak up. "Why are you here?"
The manturns to me and his lips hint a small smile. "Have you never heard that you should never ask that question in Jail?"
"Uhhhh..." I swallow.
"Just to lower the tension?" Aden asks his eyes going to Leona's still pacing form.
The man thinks about this for a second and then nods. "It's quite a story though..."
"Oh, don't worry!" I say and sit on the floor of the cell, excitedly. "We love stories here!"
"Yes, we simply just adore them." Leona mocks, but settles down anyways.
With all of us seated on the cold metal floor, the man starts to speak. "It's quite sad you know..." He starts. "I had a good life. A good job, a good wife, a beautiful daughter, and a good home. I should have been content; I had everything many men could only dream of. But I wasn't. I was consumed with greed.
The leader of the rebellion during the chronicle war wanted to prevent Dictum from entering the war. So, he recruited the help of Judah."
"The island just off Dictum?" Leona asks.
